Antivirus, Firewall, AntiSpam and Task Scheduling settings greyed out

I wanted to confirm that my active subscription settings for Norton Security Premium included automatic scans of removable media, such as USB flash drives. From the NS control panel, I clicked "Settings" and found that all of these options are greyed out and not accessible.

Help!

Norton Settings are greyed out for standard users.  To access them, you need to be logged into Windows as an administrator.

That's it exactly. Logged in with my admin account and everything is available.

Thanks!

Shouldn't there be an option for simply running the Norton client as Admin and not having to login Windows with Admin?  I assume Symantec knows that it's generally considered poor security practice to login as Admin.  Or do they?

And don't even get me started on why there is nothing to indicate that this is the reason these options are greyed out.  Design Fail.

When it comes to security, the ability to elevate privileges is not a good thing.  There is always a danger that malware could also acquire elevated privileges.  While it is dangerous to run day-to-day as an administrator, it is always safest to insist that any system changes and security settings be made only from an administrator account.
