downloaded antivirus for mac 11 running on mac version 10.4.11 - installed and downloaded all updates; however, when I try to open Norton Antivirus I immediately receive "the application Norton Antivirus quit unexpectedly". Clicking on reopen gives the same result, all help is greatly appreciated - thanks

Re: antivirus for mac will not open/ "quit unexpectedly"

Hi,

Can you copy & paste the first page of the crash report? When the alert comes up, you should have an option to "Report to Apple". If you choose that option, there will be a Crash Report which will look like a bunch of odd text. Depending on which version of Mac OS X you have, you might have to click around in the "Report to Apple" window to find this information.

If you have problems finding it, you can also get the crash report by launching the "Console" application, which can be found in the Applications -> Utilities folder. Then click on ~/Library/Logs and turn down the triangle next to it.  Then turn down the triangle next to CrashReporter, and find the Norton AntiVirus crash logs (the files will contain Norton AntiVirus in the name). Copy & paste the first page or so of the crash log here. We don't need the entire thing.

Also since this problem is obviously quite unique and reproducible, you can also just try uninstalling & re-installing the software. It sounds like you might have a problem with your install. Did you have a previous version of Norton AntiVirus installed on this computer, or another program which might have interferred with installation?

Thanks,

Ryan
