App Lock bypass to Google Play Store

I use Norton App Lock as a parental control on my kid’s device: I’ve set almost every app to be locked. That „protected list“ includes Google Play Store App to prevent kid from installing applications.

I was really surprised, he managed to bypass the guard and installed couple of games. At first I thought he must had observed the pattern but that was not the case:

Occasionally Norton App Lock shows add for another Norton apps at the lock screen. When touched, Google Play Store is being opened. Typically that application start is immediately locked by Norton App Lock because of the „protected list“. Unfortunately there must be some issue with accessing the Play Store via the advertisement because after a while of ad hoc touching the ad banner/entries of  the three dots menu/drawing invalid patterns it lets me freely to the Play Store app.

I admit this description provides very poor repro but it unfortunately works on the Samsung S3 mini, Android 4.1.2

Re: App Lock bypass to Google Play Store

What ads are you seeing in Norton App Lock login screen? I have not seen any ads presented in App Lock.

Is this reproducible?

If you can get any screenshots of this, it would be a great help.

Re: App Lock bypass to Google Play Store

It is an ad for a Norton product, please see the attachement. (sorry for a low quality photo, I'm not able to make a screenshot on the S3 phone).

As I wrote, it is reproducible but without an exact scenario: ad hoc retries of accessing the Norton ad, menu entries and reopening locked apps eventually let me into Play Store without entering the lock pattern.

Re: App Lock bypass to Google Play Store

I guess I do not see those ads because I have all Norton apps installed. So I cannot try to duplicate the issue.

I'll pass this along to my Norton Contacts. I'll let you know if I hear anything.
