What is the red line though the middle of some programs you block or allow in Application Blocking for on the Mac Computer.
I have this same problem, and resorted to online chat. I was told this wasn't normal behavior, and they want me to send in a screen shot.
I too have this issue. I upgraded to 10.12.5 and after the upgrade I noticed that Chrome is no longer allowed to access the network. Norton just blocks the connections and displays a pop-up without even asking if it's OK for Chrome to access the network. Then, if I manually add Chrome in the Application Blocking settings as an allowed app, the application icon is a question mark and the red line appears.
Again, Norton sucks - badly. I'm starting to wonder why I'm even using this thing anymore. Not a single upgrade goes without major issues.
That is exactly what I am seeing in application blocking. What is different for me is that I get the popup, allow Chrome to access the i internet, and it does work. The red line through the program is what does;t make sense - in my case.
I am on El Capitan 10.11.6, and have always had this problem since I moved back to NS in the past two months or so. I uninstalled a while ago, and decided to give it another shot. My subscription will soon expire...
Who ever programmed Norton Internet Security for the mac must know what the red line is.
Does anyone also get a folder in the trash bin called Database with two files of database.sqlite3 in.
If i take norton off then this does not happen.
Every 30 mins its puts these files in the trash bin.
Glad to see that I'm not the only one with this issue. Wondered if I had mis-configured something. The same happens with my MS Office apps too.
I'm on macOS Sierra v10.12.5
Hopefully, it will be addressed by the Norton Team soon.
Sorry for the inconvenience caused. We have fixed this issue in our upcoming release. The new release will be available to the public soon.
Leenus, and when will this update be available..... have had nothing but problems since 10.12.4 and 10.12.5.. I am shocked that Symantec has let this go on this long with no fixes or answers.. i still have to disable Application blocking every time i need to run some apps because the application blocking makes it so they take 5-10 minutes to close down when i am done... this is on my current install and a completely clean install of Mac OS 10.12.5 and Norton installed... would like to see a fix soon..
I recently wrote that the way to workaround this is to remove the apps in the allowed list and allow manually.
Fixed my Skype issue - and the Applestore.
How ever I am totally in line: This is so embarrassing for Norton. No way to treat:
1. Their customers
2. Their own reputation.
I have followed Norton since way back when and basically what can possibly be the reason that Norton still accepts their rather poor reputation they got some years back on the Mac platform. One only need to do a simple search to explore that.
When I decided to purchase again, after trying out Kaspersky and Eset, I thought: Smooth, well done Norton, because it is very fast and slick. Not so much under the hood I guess.
Norton should at least patch things up until they releases the update that they now promise. It has to be soon, to be acceptable.
Do not tell me Norton that you cant compete in a highly competitive segment as AV for Mac. Maybe there's not enough money in it, well there could be, if Norton at least made an effort. Or watch Bitdefender slowly take over the whole Mac AV scene.
Customers are loyal if they are treated with interest and behind that : Action, which speaks of the Companies engagement in this.

I can see that you recently made a profile and have 3 answers in your history.
Its too much support standard answer, The Product is FAILING.
Will you channel our frustrations to whatever supervisor that you have ???
Your answer isn't suitable, since it holds no timeline or even attempt to do so.
1 month - 2 months ? Or latest by the weekend???
We will just be slip sliding away then and engage no further.
I mean: It took Norton 3 weeks, since the start of this tread to give a no answer.
Well, no answer......
It doesn't fix any issue to treat customers this way.
Still... today... no answer... no update... no fix????
I will give it a little more time and if it not fixed then i will use another security program.
Thank you Symantec / Norton... this new update has resolved the issues i was having and things seem to be better now... I will continue to test..
This issue has been resolved with the latest update.
