Automated and full scan of USB sticks solution

Hello,

I am looking for a solution (for companies) which performs an automatic full scan of USB devices upon insertion (full scan of all files, AutoRun is deactivated). If there is a solution from Norton, can the user cancel this action?

Thanks for your answer.

Kind regards,

Basti

Thank you very much for the Link!

The Auto-Protection says: Checks for boot viruses when you access removable media. After the removable media has been scanned for boot viruses, it is not scanned again [..]

So the Auto-Protection does only scan for boot (AutoRun) viruses and not the whole data on the media? Is that right?

Re: Automated and full scan of USB sticks solution

You're most welcome :-)

I just recalled asking a Symantec volunteer the same question and posting the answer in this thread (which is still valid for today's Norton USB scanning feature):

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/NIS-2010-doesn-t-scan-Removable-Media/m-p/203923/highlight/true#M101751

So in other words, when you insert the USB drive, it will be scanned for boot malware (exe files, or files which are programmed to run automatically). Then, as you access files on the medium, AutoProtect will scan those. So if you want to have as much peace of mind as possible (and do what I always do): just right-click on the USB drive and scan it manually.

Also, since you explicitly mention that this is for a business, you might check out Symantec Endpoint Protection. The Norton product line is Symantec's consumer-oriented offering, and can also offer outstanding value to the sole proprietorship or small business, but for enterprise-level protection, Endpoint offers a more robust solution with more provisions for centralized deployment and management.
