'Automatic Download of New Version' Option Doesn't Work

I've been following many of the topics here about the problems with ver. 19.5.0.145 and wanted to avoid the issues until they had been resolved.  So on my 3 PCs running NIS 2012, I turned OFF the 'Automatic Download of New Version' option several days ago.

This morning, when I power up my systems, this version was downloaded & installed on only one of them... a WinXp Pro SP3 desktop, at 7:37am ET.

Why?  How?  Is this a bug with the option?  Does it not work?  And how do I go back to the previous version?

Automatic Download of New Version downloads only the major versions. For eg: from 2011 to 2012.

Disabling this option will not stop it from updating to the latest 19.5 patch.

If what you say is true, then the long description in Norton Help needs to be re-written to better explain that distinction.  The word 'version' needs to be better defined.

Yes, it was.  However, that information should be included in the webpage that is opened when clicking on the Help button:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?utm_source=symc&utm_medium=product&product=Norton+Internet+Security&version=19.2.0.10&lg=0901&layout=Retail&layouttype=TrialWare&buildname=Retail&symskucurrent=21195386&symskumedia=21171849&partnername=Retail&vendorid=1001470&subremaining=376&sublength=379&substatus=current&psn=7K6QJBYFGKX6&actstat=activated&curdefs=20120129.008&hbguid=D5749F65-C1FB-4448-81F5-AF7579C18951&osversion=6.1+7601.17640.amd64fre.win7sp1_gdr.110622-1506&spversion=1.0&oslang=en&ct=United+States&defbrowser=Internet+Explorer&ieversion=9.0.8112.16421&coreservice=Startup+Type%3Aauto+State%3ARunning&conntype=54000000&cpu=Intel64+Family+6+Model+37+Stepping+2&dsfree=149.09&dstotal=244.22&memload=29%25&memtotal=6793&datetime=01-30-2012+15%3A07%3A20+PM+GMT&hcmode=false&helpid=InProduct_Upgrade_HOL&entsrc=help&docid=v36662098_NIS_Retail_2012_en_us&pvid=f-nis-cur&country=United+States&language=English

However, not all users are going to drill-down to the next level of webpages to find that information.  It could be better organized.  This distinction is important enough that it should be on the first page a user goes to, IMHO.  Just saying...

On to part 2 of my opening post - how do I prevent this "update" from being installed on my other 2 PCs?  Do I have to turn off LU altogether?  Won't that stop virus definition updates as well?  Do I have any other option?
