Automatic Download of New Version set to OFF Ignored

On my XP machine I have Norton Security and Automatic Download of New Version set to OFF.

You downloaded it anyway to 22.5.2.15. Explain please.

(So far it appears to be OK; on XP that is, unlike the mess you're making on my 8.1 machines)

Thanks,

David

Re: Automatic Download of New Version set to OFF Ignored

If you had an earlier version of 22.x, 22.5 is not considered a new version, just an update.  That setting only affects going up a version, like going from 22.5 to 23.x.

Cheers.

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.

OK, Krusty13, cheers.

If I update my own code I would consider it to be a new version so perhaps Automatic Download of New Version isn't the correct name for that option in NIS/NS.

Thanks,

David

Actually, a ;version change; is like from v21.xx.xx.xx to v22.xx.xx.xx according to Norton.
The 'x' es are minor version changes, which are not a decision factor of the option 'new version check'

Re: Automatic Download of New Version set to OFF Ignored

Hi David,

There is a difference between a version update and a version upgrade - as Krusty13 explained.

Here is a link that explains it - this comes from the question mark by the Setting in Admin Settings.

Re: Automatic Download of New Version set to OFF Ignored

Actually, that just happened to my main PC.  Running on XPSP3 with v21.7.xx and have set "auto download of new version" to OFF.  Only this morning Norton downloaded the latest 22.x.x and promoted me to restart to complete instillation, what the heck!!

I'm explicitly staying away from v22.x.x because it has crashed various programs eg. Acrobat, FF/Thunderbird, etc. etc.  BTW the original subscription ended last week but was renewed since then.

So what's happened exactly??  Symantec, please explain!!
