Re: Backdoor.Trojan cannot be removed from an unsupported file

Hello All,

Can anybody help me! My Norton Internet Security 2008 keeps reporting the following:

1. Backdoor.Trojan cannot be removed from an unsupported file

2. Trojan Horse cannot be removed from an unsupported file

How do I fix this?

Thank you,

Re: Backdoor.Trojan cannot be removed from an unsupported file

Is there a name and or a path shown?

This is no Hijack forum.

But does Norton tell you a name?

Does Spysweeper tell you something?

You might want to get a "second opinion" and a good one is Dr. Web's CureIt which is a free anti-malware utility.

Re: Backdoor.Trojan cannot be removed from an unsupported file

01. Run LiveUpdate and Install all Updates.

02. Run a Full System Scan.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi agree with Buck.

It's always good to get a second opinion.

BTW. Good to see you around Buck

Re: Backdoor.Trojan cannot be removed from an unsupported file

Have you tried downloading and installing the latest definitions, then running a Full Scan in Safe Mode? This would be a good first step in removing the issue. If you find more specific information on this Trojan, then we can search for specific fixtools on symantec.com for the specific Trojan. Thanks!

I am getting the same notification after running a full system scan. I ran a Full Scan in Safe Mode and still getting a message saying "Trojan Horse cannot be removed from an unsupported file." There are no other details about the file or location of file that is being affected. Any suggestions?

Re: Backdoor.Trojan cannot be removed from an unsupported file

Are you able to see any location? That way you can send a sample to Symantec

No location listed at all. Don't know which file is infected.

Have you tried using the Removal Tool(s) for the Threat(s)?

Re: Backdoor.Trojan cannot be removed from an unsupported file

Removal Tools such as what? When I did a full scan, it did not give me an option to remove or delete or quarantine the Trojan Horse, and only allow me to review it, which takes me to a web page about Trojan Horse.

Please download Malwarebytes

and run a full scan.
