Backup Failed: Out of Storage Space

When I do a backup to my 4tb external drive (3.2 tb free space and the videos are much smaller than this), I get this error message on some of my larger video files while the rest of the files seem to backup fine.  When I look at the files in the backup (using restore) it appears that the files are actually there.  I chatted with support which was who connected to my PC to check the problem out.  Their solution was to exclude those files from the backup, which was absolutely ridiculous!  I asked to be sent to the next level of support, they gave me a number and said I would be called within 48 hours, which has never happened!

Has anyone experienced this issue?    I cannot trust this product at this point...

Thank you!

Hello DFriend. What is the TOTAL size of your backup set as compared to the 4TB storage its going to? Can you post a screenshot of the error screen you are getting? Here is how to put screenshots directly into your posts here.

Cheers

Re: Backup Failed: Out of Storage Space

Thanks for your reply.  The backup preview shows 23930 files to be backed up and required space is 138.5 GB.

The destination drive capacity is 3.63 TB with 3.25 TB free.

Re: Backup Failed: Out of Storage Space

Are you using the computer when doing the backup? The Result line recommends closing all applications and trying again.

Have you ever gotten this backup set to run to completion?

Re: Backup Failed: Out of Storage Space

Hummm….use this listing as a guide. Check the file types (videos) that are presenting the issue against the list to determine if they are being seen as an "unknown file type" and being ignored. The other issue could be whether they are somehow encrypted, Norton doesn't like backing up encrypted files and does present issues. And of course make sure your system power settings are not set allowing hibernation, hard drive power downs, or USB selective suspend enabled. Hope that helps a bit.

Re: Backup Failed: Out of Storage Space

Other than running the backup, no I am not using any programs.  I have also closed all other windows during the backup operation.

The backup runs to completion, but not without an error.

When I go to restore files and view what is in the backup set it appears that those video files are actually in the backup file.

Try restoring one of those files to a temporary location and see if it is intact.

Re: Backup Failed: Out of Storage Space

I viewed the listing you supplied and all of the videos comply (MPG and MP4).

I do not believe they are encrypted.  They easily open with windows software.

Power settings are liberal and have not come into play.

USB Selective Suspend was enabled (I disabled it), ran it again and still got the same error.
