Blocked site?

I cannot get to a certain web site anymore using Microsoft Edge browser. When I type in the URL, it gives me a message: "Hmm...can't reach this page". I was always able to access this web site up until about 1 week ago. It continues to work fine using Firefox browser. Is it possible that Norton is somehow blocking my access to this site when using Edge (which is my default browser)? If so, how can I check?

Hello gwalks

A screenshot of the error message would help please.

Here are the instructions on how to add a image to your post.

Re: Blocked site?

Hello

It's not a Safe Web issue since it works okay with Firefox. Do you have any issues reaching other sites with Edge? It could be Microsoft since they are working on the new  Edge browser which is combining it with Chrome.

Re: Blocked site?

That is the only web site that gives me that problem. I have another computer and can reach that web site fine using Edge. It seems like somehow that site got blocked on this one computer, either via the Edge browser or Norton.

Thanks.

Re: Blocked site?

Have you clicked on the link 'Report this Issue'?  That will send the information to MS to have them check what is happening.

As a test, try disabling the Norton Safe Web extension in Edge and see if you still get that block. If you do, try disabling any other extensions, one at a time, to see if you can identity one that may be causing this issue.

EDIT

I just tried the site using Edge and was not blocked.

"...try disabling the Norton Safe Web extension in Edge and see if you still get that block

How do I do that?

Re: Blocked site?

Click on the three dots at the top right of Edge's address bar. Then click on Extensions, and turn off the Norton Safe Web extension.

"Have you clicked on the link 'Report this Issue'?"

Yes, have not heard back from Microsoft yet.

Re: Blocked site?

Thank you, I tried it. Didn't work.

Re: Blocked site?

When you say it didn't work, are you saying that even after disabling all extensions you were or were not able to access the site?

Re: Blocked site?

Same result as before.

Going back to my original question, can you block certain web sites using Norton (e.g., parental controls, etc)? If so, there must be a way of accessing a list of blocked web sites in Norton. How can I check that list to see if this site inadvertently ended up on it?

Re: Blocked site?

If you are getting that message when trying to access that web site, even with all extensions disabled, it is not anything Norton is doing. That is not a Norton block message, but from the browser itself. If it were Norton blocking, it would be a big red message similar to the one in the image below.

Re: Blocked site?

Thank you. I don't know what 'extensions' refers to.

Is it possible for the user to manually block a site using Norton, for example that he doesn't want his 12 year old daughter going to? If that is possible, and I believe it is, where on Norton do I find a list of such sites?

Re: Blocked site?

I don't know what 'extensions' refers to.

Browser extensions enhance the browsing experience by adding features or functionality to what the browser offers. From your previous posts, it sounded like you were able to disable your extensions in Edge. If this is not so, go back to my post here and try again.

I'll let others try to help with the message you are getting in Edge. It is not a blocked page, but there seems to be something interfering with getting through to that page. Are you able to get to the main page of the web site? The URL in your image shows you are accessing pages within that site. It could just be an issue with the web site. Have you contacted them about your issue? As you only have issues with one site, it sounds like a site specific issue.

Re: Blocked site?

I get the same message ("Hmmm...can't reach this page") when I try the main page of the site.

It is a site specific issue, but also specific to my one computer and only with the MS Edge browser. As I mentioned, I can get there using a different browser, or by using my other laptop which also uses the Edge browser. Is it possible they hit my one computer with a cookie or some other marker banning me from that site? Doesn't seem plausible since they could just ban my account and not let me sign in. I'm grasping at straws here.

Re: Blocked site?

Try clearing the browser cache and history in Edge. Open Edge and click on the three dots at the top right. Then click on Settings, and then look at the Clear Browser Data and then click on Choose What to Clear. Be sure at least the first three options are selected, Browsing History, Cookies and saved website data, and Cached data and files. Then click on Clear. Close Edge, restart your computer, and test the site again.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Blocked site?

Hello gw

Microsoft is working on Edge and making it like Chrome. Windows 10 is like the whole program is a Beta program with all the bugs it seems to have with their updates. Have you tried using Chrome with the troublesome computer and with the troublesome website?

Unless you had this issue in 2018, here is the solution for you I believe. Please look at and try these things. I don't think it can hurt your computer, but perhaps peterweb might take a look first at this link. The screenshot in this link is identical to the one that gw has. Please see

Re: Blocked site?

@gwalks

There are a number of suggestions in the link in floplot's post. Be sure you try one suggestion at a time and restart your computer before checking to see if it helps. If it does not, try the next and restart and test. Continue until you find the suggestion that helps with your issue.

Then, please post back with your results so it can help others that may see the same problem you are seeing.

Re: Blocked site?

I cleared only the cache and cookies, but not the history. Now seems to work fine. So we have the solution -- any speculation as to what caused the problem?

Thanks to all.

Re: Blocked site?

There could have been some corrupted information in the cache, or a cookie for that site. Clearing those allows the browser to set/save new information for the web site.
