Had my browsers opening themselves randomly all of a sudden. Purchased Norton 360, did all the scans and it found nothing. Then downloaded Norton Power Eraser and it found something. However, this morning Chrome has started opening itself (just one window not many at it was doing yesterday).
What can I do next!!

A lot of browsers keep running in the background so even when you 'close' the browser it is still running in the background taking up resources, could this be the issue. I mainly use Edge, this is the same, had to disable background tasks in settings. Chrome apparently is the same. ie, when closed it is still live in the background. Have Chrome on an old 8.1 laptop but very rarely use, main daily computer current desktop using Edge as default. A MS Edge update a while back included this 'feature', apparently so next time of opening, pages loads quicker - if it did it was only milliseconds, not noticeable.

1) Had you installed any program/s or browser extension/s?
What browsers? Do you run browser sync?
Browsers opens randomly on Windows startup or not associated with Windows startup?
Browsers randomly open to same page? what page?
2) What security solution before Norton 360?
3) Norton Power Eraser may be run from within Norton 360. found something = ?
4) One window = same one window = what window?

Thanks for all your comments. Really appreciate it. However, since posting this I have not had Chrome or Firefox launching by themselves, several instances on top of one another, as was the case before when I just had the free version of AVG. I decided to look around for a different software and went with installing ESET premium on a trial basis. I decided to go with Norton in the end as it just seems easier and less technical. When I installed ESET it ran its scans and found one file which was quarantined and the browsers stopped launching one after another. But a little while later Chrome launched by itself suddenly, only one instance. That's when I sent through the post on this forum. After that I ran a scan with Norton and it found a bad file so my guess is that all is well now...
I would like to know what the file was that Norton found but I can't see where it stores that info. Where does it quarantine files?
