BSODs

Hi,

I am running Norton 360 v 4.3 under WIndows XP.  For about a month now I have been getting BSODs . Descriptions are:

Driver_irq_not_less_or _equal

Page fault in non paged area

Driver_irqL_not_less_or_equal

Atapi.sys

Bhdrvcx86.sys

Win32.sys

Symtdi.sys

SRTSP.sys

I have tested memory with Memtest86 and all is fine.  I have removed/deinstalled/reinstalled all peripherals one at a time.  I have reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled software including Norton 360.  The last two BSODs listed above happened AFTER reformatting.  I am beginning to wonder if Norton is the cause of ALL the blue screens I am getting.  Is there anyone that can help me diagnose this further to see if it is Norton causing these issues?

Thank you.

Marie

Re: BSODs

Hi Marie,

Welcome to Norton Community!

Can you let us know why you reformatted the computer?

If it was due to virus infection, I would suggest to try Norton Bootable Recovery Tool. Boot using the Recovery tool, and then run a scan. Check if it detects any threats.

You can also uninstall Norton 360 and then check if you are getting any blue screen error.

Re: BSODs

Yogesh,

I reformatted because one tech told me I had either a corrupt Windows installation or bad memory.  (Memory tests out good.)

Working without any security software is scary to me.. I do online banking, credit card, etc.  I am not sure I would want to work without Norton.

Thanks for the welcome.

Re: BSODs

Please try the Norton Bootable Recovery Tool as I posted above. You can create the tool using any other computer.

Yogesh,

I ran the Norton Bootable Recovery and it found nothing.  So any explanation for the Norton issue BSOD's?

Re: BSODs

I would suggest a visit to one of these free malware removal forums for assistance.  It may be Windows errors, but when atapi.sys is one of the affected drivers, you may need more specialized scans to find out what is happening.  These forums can also assist with Windows errors if that proves to be the case.

Delphinium,

Thanks for the info.  And thanks for everyone who has offered assistance.  But I a "forumed" out.  I am going to call in a local tech and have him check things out.  I just can't deal with "try this, uninstall that, do this" anymore.

I run Malwarebytes and Spybot everyweek as well as Norton 360 and Systemworks.

Spybot Tea timer may not work well with N360

Re: BSODs

BanMidou,

Can you please explain why Spybot Tea timer and N360 might have a conflict.  I have used Spybot for years and would hate to have to give it up.  My son and grandson run both also and we have not had any problems with either software.

Delphinium.... Someone at bleepingcomputer.com recommended  I deinstall/reinstall Norton.  That may be a solution for the last two BSODs but not all the others.

Thanks,

Marie

Re: BSODs

Spybot Teatimer is a real time component for antispyware protection. Norton 360 also have similar real time protection. Running two different security programs in real time often conflict with each other's functionalities. So, it is adviced to disable the Spybot Teatimer when running Norton 360.

Also, provide the STOP error code which you receive in BSOD, such as 0x0000001E (0xc0000006, 0xA011C102, 0x00000000, 0xA011C102).

Re: BSODs

BanMidou,

PNY has asked me to replace my memory modules even though memtest ran fine.  Because they are under a life time warrantee they were replaced this evening at BestBuy.

I am now using Firefox... not a fan of IE8.

I also deinstalled/reinstalled Norton 360 with their removal tool. (Norton community form member suggested it)

So, now I will fight with my printer (canon i9900 new printhead does not print all colors) and see if everything I have done with the laptop solves my problem.

Thanks for your help everyone.  I will post back in a while and let you know if all is well.

Re: BSODs

Hi,

I have had the memory modules replaced in my laptop and all is well.

Have gone back to IE7 because of constant crashes with Firefox (firefox issue).

All is well.. on to my printer issue.

Thanks for all the help.

Re: BSODs

Hi Marleo,

Firefox crashes are usually caused by an add-on throwing a wrench in the works.  Try disabling your extensions and re-enabling them, one at a time, until you find the one causing the trouble.

Re: BSODs

I have removed both Firefox and Safari and working with just IE8 for now, until I can figure out problem.

I keep getting messages about Norton360 framework.... Anyone know what that is about?
