Bug: Gap below Screenshots

Xp, Chrome

When composing a message and adding screenshots to a message, the gap below the screenshot and the next paragraph isn't there,

After posting it to, the message appears on the board with a big blank gap between the screenshot and the next writing

See http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/CONSTANT-HTTPS-Tidserv-Request-Intrustion-attempts-from-TWO-IP/m-p/213948/highlight/true#M105670

I have noticed when composing the message, that when adding the screenshot, the cursor for where you are typing is up on the end of the first line of the screenshot, like it's in a behind layer.

Keep pressing [return] to bring the cursor below the screenshot then keep typing.

This post looks like that is why the type has ended up on the upper right and side of the screenshot

Thanks Quads. I think I understand - the editor displays the cursor to the right of the graphic, so you hit ENTER to get the cursor below the graphic. But when you post, it adds all those line breaks below the graphic. Is that right?

Yep, looks like that's the case, looking at the size (number) of line breaks, in relation to the screenshot size.

Smaller length of screenshot equals less line breaks / smaller space below

When I used to use Image alignment Left  I had to use multiple Line feeds (ENTER) to get the text starting again below the image otherwise it made a narrow column down the right of the image if the image did not fill the width of the pane.

Then I started using Insert and found that the cursor did not jump to below the image but started halfway down.

But to my surprise I found that I only needed one or maybe 2 Line feeds for the cursor to jump all the way below the image the moment I started typing the new text! If I moved the cursor with multiple LFs then as soon as I started to type I got the long white space described.

Clearly it would be better if insert did insert ......

I have found a problem with the detection of "Trojan.Zeloaces.inf" will probably have to wait until this is fixed otherwise the post may be long with lots of empty spaces.

Have you tried the procedure I use that I describe above of using Insert and only one or maybe two ENTER's until I see the cursor just below the image. I find that comes up OK but I'll try here and now in case the system changed.

OK Still in the editor when I insert / Large the flashing cursor was exactly level with the dividing bar in the upper and lower panes in the OE image. One ENTER put it just below the image (so the first letter would have done that) but I add another to give a little white space below the image.

I'll now insert the same image Full Size in case that affects what happens but I normally use Large to try to avoid stretching the frame relying on people knowing that they can enlarge very easily using CTRL + Mouse Wheel or other shortcuts.

This is Full Size and again the cursor was in the same place.

Now this was done with the default settings of Left / Full SIze amd in this case the cursor is left after the last bit of text above the inserted image and needs multiple ENTER's to bring it down to the same position.

Now to go to Preview .... and it shows the blank space you mention so it would seem that the answer is to just keep on typing maybe after any normal ENTER for paragraphs .... Let's see:

If you put just a couple of ENTERs then it columns down the right in the editor but what happens in preview?

And the answer was that it puts in automatically the jump to after the image.

So if you want to use the default Full Size / Left the answer seems to be to ignore what you see in the editor or even in Preview and it will sort itself out. But the easier is to use Insert instead of Left and just put a couple of ENTER's so that it looks OK in the editor and in the preview.

Sorry I had no images of Marilyn Monroe .... handy.

Re: Bug: Gap below Screenshots

Hugh,

Maybe I lost track of what I was doing but whereas when I previewed it had the extra blankk lines after the image they don't appear now in posting but appear as the column text alongside the image.

So the answer woujld seem not to use the default Left but to use Insert which I thought was being changed to being the default after something altered it a while ago -- I thought that is what I'd seen Tony say.

Re: Bug: Gap below Screenshots

Looks like I found a workaround with Chrome and the problem for now anyway.

Type the message to where the screenshot or the first screenshot would be, then have  4 line breaks (press RETURN 4 times).

Then carry on typing the next paragraph. Then after place the cursor in the top left hand corner of where  the screenshot will be in the 4 line breaks done earlier and insert the image.

In the Insert Image Dialog box, select "Inline" instead of the default "Left" and BINGO

Since the Latest forum update and the default for inserting images has changed to "inline" the problem seems to be fixed.

Re: Bug: Gap below Screenshots

The only thing I found is that if you look around in the editor to check the image out you may move the cursor so after checking the image inserted by using preview and then going back to Rich Text I do CTRL + END to make sure the cursor is still at the end of the text and then a couple of ENTERs to provide space after the image to continue the text.

The first time I did this my cursor must have gone to the top because my ENTERs just moved the whole text down to below the image ...

And last night the editor was stripping LFs between paragraphs ..... but that seems OK this morning.
