bypassing norton family in android

My son has figured out that you can bypass family in android by going into settings/apps and force stopping norton family.  This turns off all the blocks until the phone is restarted.  Is there a fix for this?  It makes the phone app pretty useless.

Re: bypassing norton family in android

Hi kendoug and chec,

Thanks for sharing the information with us.  I'll report this to the team for further investigation.

Can you please let me know if you get an alert in your Norton Family online account and/or email notification saying Norton Family service has been stopped or something similar?   Norton Family sends an alert to the parent when the scenarios happen.

When the Norton Family program was designed,  the approach was of course keeping children safe online and also provide the opportunities for the parents to communicate with their children and encourage conversations about online safety.

Thanks

Katie

Re: bypassing norton family in android

Katie,

I don't get an alert. I notice when going into the apps to clear all running apps so that they phone is not so slow, it actually turns off Norton Family and then the app doesn't start back up until the phone is turned off and back on. It doesn't start right back up like it used to a while back.

Re: bypassing norton family in android

There is no alert in this situation.  He can force stop it, go about his business, reboot the phone and you wouldn't know.

A real problem.

Solution would seem to be to allow a block on the settings app if that is possible.

Re: bypassing norton family in android

Thanks both for the update.  Can you please let me know

1. What version of Android is running on the device?

2. What version of Norton Family is on the phone?  To find the version number, please go to your Android device, click Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> Norton Family.

so we can check into this further?

Thanks

Re: bypassing norton family in android

Kaite,

Its Android 2.3.6 and NF version 3.3.0.18. Whenever active apps and/or active background processes are cleared it closes NF. Again, this is done to speed up the phone and at the same time it closes NF and it doesn't restart until I click on the NF app again or restart the phone.

Thanks,

Chec

Hi All,

We have corrected the issue for Android version 4.0 and above devices, which will go in our next release.

The current fix is on Force Stop,  NF Android app will restart automatically.

For Android version 2.3 devices, the team will continue to work on this.

Re: bypassing norton family in android

Hi Katie,

Has there been any update regarding the force stop cancelling out NF on Android 2.3.6? I am constantly finding that NF is off on my sons phone due to this bug in the program and would like to know if there will be a resolution soon.

Thanks,

Chec

Re: bypassing norton family in android

Hi Chec,

Thanks for the inquiry.  The team has corrected the issue for users with Android 4. For older Android version 2.3, it has different settings from Android 4. The team is checking into the issue for Android 2.3.  I'll pass your request to the team.

Thanks

Re: bypassing norton family in android

It used to work in the past. I'm not sure why functions work properly then all of a sudden stop. Hope this can be resolved soon because we can't use the app without it being fixed. Thanks again!

Hi,

It's the same in my son's phone. He has an BQ Telephone with Android 4.4.2 and Family Norton 3.4.0.19

When will Norton team release the new versión?

Thanks

Re: bypassing norton family in android

Hi Maria,

The issue is corrected and released in 3.4.0.19.  Can you please check again to see if you are still experiencing the issue?

If yes, can you please let us know if the Device Administration permission is provided to NF? This is provided during the child bind flow.

This can also be checked from Settings -> Security -> Device Administator -> Check if Norton Family is checked?

Also, please check if the Force stop is disabled in  Settings - > Apps or Applications - > Norton Family?

Thanks

Katie

Re: bypassing norton family in android

I found this discussion with a google search.  I am currently trying to install norton family premier on a android 4.4.4 tablet that both of my boys use.  I have been trying to figure out if I can set this tablet up to monitor both of them separately.  I found this page:  https://onlinefamily.norton.com/familysafety/help.fs?action=androidLinst...

I am hoping that I can have this tablet set up to monitor each boy seperately, if I have them each create a user account, and I retain the administrative account.  Please help....
