Camera not connecting since updating on June 9

On June 9, I used LiveUpdate to get the latest updates. Then, the D-ViewCam software that used to connect without any problem to my camera stopped being able to connect.

The camera is working: using my iPhone I can connect to the camera and everything works normally. Same thing with the web app. The problem is not with the camera, that's sure.

From my Windows 10 machine, I can ping the camera, I can access its web interface and get a video stream. However, D-ViewCam cannot connect to it anymore.

I tried a lot of things: disabling the firewall completely, looking at 'Program Control' and 'Advanced Program Control' with no avail.

I need a solution to this problem. TIA.

HOTK Have you attempted to add the device? Under Firewall>General Settings Tab>Network Settings>Device Trust - click configure to the right in blue. Add the device to the list.

Re: Camera not connecting since updating on June 9

Thank you SoulAsylum. No, I had not. I have now added the device as a fully trusted device but the camera is still unable to connect (while I can have a video stream via the web app on the same Win10 machine).

I wonder if the new feature "Safecam" that is (currently) offered only to a selection of users my have been incorrectly distributed, e.g. I might have received that update by without the new interface to manage it... (I saw an image in a post in this forum and it is on the Setting page.)

HOTK Lets switch that setting to ON and see if anything changes. Here is the official article on that new feature.

Re: Camera not connecting since updating on June 9

Thanks SoulAsylum, but my problem is that I don't have that option on the Setting page. In other words, I don't have Safecam as an option. I only suspect that the update I received on June 9 might have been incorrect.

The problem might be elsewhere but a saw a message dated June 10 where a user had recently got this option (without doing anything to be part of those who get it).

Well, I would like to use Safecam since this thing is about blocking/unblocking access to the camera. Is someone from Symantec hearing me? I tried to chat with support but the service was overloaded.

If you do not see the feature in your Norton Settings, you do not have the feature yet. See my post here explaining the distribution.  https://community.norton.com/en/comment/7932761#comment-7932761

Re: Camera not connecting since updating on June 9

Yes, but this is under the assumption that the distribution of updates is "bugless" (i.e. they don't make mistakes). It is probably the case.

So, for me the question remains: What happened on June 9 when I used LiveUpdate? Before, the software was able to connect to the camera. After, it is unable to connect.  (The device is now 'fully authorized', the software is 'Allowed'; the camera can be pinged and video streaming is possible via the web app.)

Does anyone have an idea?

Have you checked to see if there were any updates to D-ViewCam software around the same time?

Yes, I installed the latest version. Before experiencing the problem, I was using an older version. However, with the new version it's the same.

HOTK Check these on your router: Live Streaming Port: 5150 / Playback Server: 5160

Re: Camera not connecting since updating on June 9

The camera is connected to a special optical fiber router custom made for my ISP provider (I'm in Switzerland). All this for saying that I cannot find the "Live Streaming Port:" nor the "Playback Server".

I am going to reinstall the camera and connect it to my ASUS router instead of that box. Then I will look at these port and server if it still does not connect.

Thanks for the feedback HOTK. Let us know how the new setup goes.

Re: Camera not connecting since updating on June 9

I reconfigured my camera to use my ASUS RT-AC88U router. I get video streaming on my iPhone and on my Win10 PC via the web app.

However, no progress on the D-ViewCam front: The software cannot connect to the camera even if it detects the camera on the network (it finds its IP address and more).

Maybe, a sub-module has to be "allowed," but I do not see which one. In addition, before June 9 (update of Norton Security), that was not necessary.

By the way, my ASUS router has many features but I cannot find the "Live Streaming Port:" nor the "Playback Server". Before June 9, it did not matter...

Any idea?

Re: Camera not connecting since updating on June 9

Use port forwarding rules on the router and assign it to that device. https://portforward.com/asus/rt-ac68u/

Re: Camera not connecting since updating on June 9

I managed to understand how port forwarding (also called port mapping in some routers) works. However, finally that is not necessary: I changed the port used by the camera from 80 to 81 and it started working again (using the ISP optic fiber router).

I guess that my ISP (cell phone company entering this new market) has silently changed something: They probably blocked port 80. I am not sure but this is not important since everything works now as it should.

I implemented the port forwarding but I think that it does not play a role in my case (i.e., not really used).

Many thanks for the suggestions. I learned a few things and wasted some time looking at the wrong place.
