Can I copy windows xp partation to another partation?

I have 4 partitions on my hard drive, make ghost from (C:) drive ( windows XP) that went fine, but when try to extract it to another partition to have another windows XP on the same hard drive ( for example on D:) it works with some bugs but the main issue is that the programs still point to (C:) drive, is there a way to solve this issue? Thanks.

It's not easy when trying to use the same drive.

One of the rules of cloning is to not let the new drive see the old drive or not to let the old drive see the new drive until the new drive has booted at least once all by it'self.

If you had 2 drives it would be very easy but since your trying to use 2 partitions on the same drive it becomes difficult.

I have done it before but it takes some registry edits offline (from outside that version of windows).

How is the system booting now?

Is the original C drive still the active partition and you added an entry into the boot.ini file to boot the second version of XP?

2mato,

Can  you post a screenshot of Disk Management? That should help us understand your situation.
