Cannot connect to the Norton server

This thread is related to "Switch to Norton Security Deluxe from AVG" in this section.

Thanks to everybody's help I subscribed to Norton Security Deluxe, uninstalled AVG, and installed NDS on three PCs.  On the last PC I was able to do a Live Update (and rebooted), but when I click on Activate Now I get the timeout message "Cannot connect to the Norton server". 

In My Norton I see that two devices are subscribed.  I can't find any way to get the third PC recognized.  Obviously my Internet connection is working, as I was able to install NDS and do an update.

I'm using Windows 7 Pro 64 bit SP1 on all three PCs.

Do you have an MSI motherboard and Nahimic audio software installed? Try uninstalling Nahimic while you are activating Norton. You should be able to reinstall Nahimic if you need it.

No, I have an Asus P7P55 Deluxe.  No Nahimic.  It's an older PC in another room on my network.  I'm using it for backup purposes.

I did the routine of setting Firefox as the default browser then restarting the machine.  No dice.  Then I set IE 11 as default.  Same results.  I tried getting my subscription status to no avail.  The timeout message doesn't mention 'browser.

I tried Googling "Cannot connect to the Norton server".  Lots of results.  Lots of frustration!

You can try this to install Norton Security Deluxe

www.norton.com/latestns  You can also wait it out for a day or 2 and then see if that one can connect. Also make sure you are using a Windows Admin Account and have Norton Manage turned on. I would also try doing a Tracert to Norton.com and see where the blockage is occurring.

Thanks!  I have been reading a related thread and already gave www.norton.com/latestns a try.  I also did a Windows Clean Boot and got nowhere. 

I uninstalled NSD with the uninstall tool and reinstalled it.  When the main window came up it opened a Connecting with Norton server window and completed its business.  But when I tried to Activate, the Connecting window timed out.

No, I have an Asus P7P55 Deluxe.  No Nahimic.

Check for any Asus Audio software, and uninstall if you find it. The MSI is the one manufacturer I remember, but others have had issues as well.

Thanks very much for all your help but I don't want to do that.  This is getting too deep into the weeds.  I installed a 'free' AV from another software publisher on that PC while deciding what to do with my overall AV strategy.

I did the chat.  They fixed me up!  Yay!!  It appears that validation was part of the remote installation and was pre-validated.  So it wasn't necessary to make the validation connection to the Norton server as when it's done locally.  I still don't know if it would have worked. 

But I'm all set!  Thanks very much everybody.

You're welcome.  Thanks again.  The chat tool itself worked better than any other I've experienced.  The agent was technically on top of everything.  No hesitations- only do thin, this, and this and... done!  Not only that but she had great people communications skills, which helped make the chat a positive experience.  :)
