Cannot disable videos in Norton Family

We installed Norton Family on our child'iphone and it is working. We listed YouTube in the blocked web sites. He does not have the YouTube app enabled.

However, he can search for and watch videos in Norton Family. How do I block all videos if we prefer he not watch them on his phone?

I believe he is also still able to view videos on his PC--again, these somehow come through Norton Family rather than YouTube.

There are times (usually because of homework) we would like to prevent all videos simply so he does not have the distraction of knowing they're available.

Re: Cannot disable videos in Norton Family

Hi nfkknox,

Can you please ensure if you have entered youtube.com as part of the blocked sites in Norton Family portal for your child and saved the settings.

This will result in website getting blocked in Norton Family browser for iOS and similarly in Windows PC as well.

Thanks!

Are there any websites that is getting blocked for the child? Please suggest the browser being used in Windows?

Also, please make sure Norton Family browser extensions are enabled in Windows PC.

Please update the house rules in your child's Windows machine by clicking on the tray icon -> Update House Rules.

If you have further issues, we can have a remote session on Windows PC to check why Youtube is not getting blocked.

Re: Cannot disable videos in Norton Family

Yes, in the House Rules settings Web Supervision is set to "High," with a few categories enabled.  In addition, Google and YouTube are specifically blocked.

On the iphone the browser is Norton Family. Yet he still can view videos through it.

On the PC the browser is Internet Explorer. We are unaware of a Norton Family browser on the PC.  If there is one, we need instructions on how to enable it. Our understanding was, though, that Norton Family monitors Internet Explorer.

Why would we need to Update House Rules? The PC has been restarted multiple times and videos have been available before and after.

I would like the ability to block all videos at times, and then to allow them at other times.

Re: Cannot disable videos in Norton Family

PC does not have a Norton Family browser. Norton Family does monitor Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox browsers in PC.

So ideally the block should be happening on your child's device - PC and iPhone.

We would like to have a remote session on Windows PC to investigate and sent a private message.

Re: Cannot disable videos in Norton Family

We do not permit remote sessions on our devices.

YouTube is not the only source of online videos, so my question does not involve only YouTube.  I include the information that it is blocked because it is so popular.

Re: Cannot disable videos in Norton Family

It appears that you want to block all online videos regardless of the website and quoted Youtube as an example. Hope you tried adding to the "blocked websites" list, other online video domains that you wish to block.

There is no single category that can block access to all online videos. The category depends on the website being accessed which might contain a video. Blocking "Entertainment and Music" category would be the closest match for websites similar to Youtube.

Hope this helps!
