Cannot 'purge' backup data

I have the Premium product with 25gb backup.  When I went to perform the back-up it says I do not have the space so I went online to take a look.  There are back-up set from computers I've had for over a decade and well, they are no longer needed.  According to the online help, I am supposed to be able to click 'File Actions' and select purge to get right of them.

Purge is not an option, it appears I can only download or email the files - I cannot delete them.  Why not?  How can I get rid of these old datasets?

Re: Cannot 'purge' backup data

I’m in a similar boat, I have space but have backups which I can’t remove/delete. I contacted support but they didn’t understand my problem.

Tbh I gave up on Norton backup after finding it impossible to restore files after a reinstall of Windows 10, I now use Macrium Reflect where I can mount the image to move files etc back to a clean install of Windows or restore a previous image after any problems.

Re: Cannot 'purge' backup data

I have the same problem.  There's space there but also backups from old computers I don't need any more but no way to delete them.  I have been round and round the loop 3 or 4 times on the support website in case I missed something.

I think it is because Norton only supply a subset of the full backup product with the "Premium" product so that you will HAVE to buy the full backup or more space - but they keep very quiet about it.

I'll just have to wait for my subscription to run out and then move away from Norton, as I don't see why I should pay for "Premium" but only get a subset.

Re: Cannot 'purge' backup data

Even if you pay for the service you still can’t delete backups created from Norton BU. I had a free trial of the full version & still didn’t have any delete option.

For backup I now use Macrium Reflect.

Re: Cannot 'purge' backup data

I am so sorry to read this thread.  I have been giving feed back that deleting the "paid for backup" is impossible to do.  I figured it was my technical issue.  Can Norton speak up and give insight?

Re: Cannot 'purge' backup data

Elsewhere on the forum Norton told me to contact support, I did but they had no idea what I was talking about & pointed me where to find the delete button under the online backup webpage. I mentioned that option wasn’t available several times. In the end I gave up.

Re: Cannot 'purge' backup data

I have had the same experience - 3 lengthy calls with support (one taking a whole day) and I have consistently asked for them to give me more back up free of charge if they cannot fix.

Also asked for an escalation path but no response. After reading tis thread seriously thinking of not renewing

Re: Cannot 'purge' backup data

I’ve been considering going to Windows Defender & as I have only a few days on my subscription I decided to uninstall Norton with the R&R tool. Afterwards I found non of my Edge extentions would work incl Norton ID safe, I also had constant pop up on restart saying Norton was not upto date, I restored from an image then tried again but this time I set the default browser back to IE which solved the extentions problem. I still had the pop up though which was an entry in the startup folder - I used CCleaner to remove it.
Something to remember if you decide to go elsewhere for AV protection.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for reporting this issue.

We are investigating this and will get back to you with more information once we hear from the backup team.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Re: Cannot 'purge' backup data

I just went to nobu.backup.com and I cannot even see my Backups!!!  Read through the Help/User guide, useless, it assumes you can see them.  Read further and found out that, even if I could see them, because the Backups were created with the "Premium" product I wouldn't be able to delete them anyway.

So I thought I would download the 'free' trial version, but didn't even download it because it would not allow me to see existing Backups without installing it on each individual computer that is backed up.  As the Backups I want to delete are from OLD laptops that are now dismantled and scrapped, it's a waste of time even trying to start the trial.

I suppose the moral of the story is:  if you are going to scrap a laptop remember to delete all the Backups from it before you do.

If it's one that has completely crashed so that you can't get on it, then Norton Backup is no help to you and you are stuck with wasting backup space forever and a day.

Re: Cannot 'purge' backup data

I have a similar issue - getting frequent popups that I'm out of online storage (prompting me to buy more), and it appears due to old backups which I cannot see on nobu,backup.com in order to delete them.

Norton support needs to fix this.
