Cannot remove Norton Download Manager

My former ISP, Comcast, provided a complementary subscription to Norton Security Suite. It was great but expired when I switched to another ISP a few months ago.

  1. I successfully and completely removed Norton Security Suite using the Windows 10 app settings but Norton Download Manager is another story. Each time I wake my computer from sleep mode or reboot, Norton Download Manager returns with the following message:

  2. I used Task Manager to find the program and folder and delete it. However, it still keeps coming back and Norton Download Manager runs when I wake my computer

  3. Then, I researched the issue and downloaded, installed and ran Norton Remove and Reinstall using the Advanced option to remove only. However, each time I wake my computer from sleep mode or reboot, Norton Download Manager returns with that same annoying message!

  4. Next, I searched the Windows Registry and deleted every instance of the words "Comcast" and "Norton" that I could find. Yet, it still kept coming back.

  5. Finally, I contacted Norton support via chat and the tech person requested to remote into my computer. I gave him access and he installed another program (don't remember the name) and removed all instances of Norton files/folders on my computer then had me run Norton Remove and Reinstall using the Advanced option to remove only then reboot my computer. It appeared to be gone but a day or two later, it returned and keeps coming back!

I really don't want to format my hard drive and lose everything but this pervasive program feels like an annoying virus that is frustrating me to no end!!!!

Re: Cannot remove Norton Download Manager

I'll ask our resident Comcast guru  @yank to see what he can do for you.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

@kirks61

How about a very long shot - Look in Task Scheduler and work your way down to Remediation in the Task Scheduler Library - then Antimalware and the Actions Tab

Bear in mind this image is from a WIN 7 system that I had been running Norton Security Suite on, but now has Norton Security Online installed.   We have seen situations in the past where this item in Task Scheduler was causing similar problems where something would try to install and then error due to system OS upgrade.

Hope this helps!

Re: Cannot remove Norton Download Manager

Looks like removing the remediation entry in the Task Scheduler did the trick! It hasn't returned after two wake-up times. I'll know for sure by tomorrow though.

Unfortunately, it's back again!

Re: Cannot remove Norton Download Manager

Another user had a similar issue. The product got downloaded with an Adobe update. The downloader was eventually found in an Adobe folder.

Try doing a search in Windows Explorer for anything Comcast.

Also look for anything Comcast in Startup items by starting Windows Task Manager and clicking on the Startup tab.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Cannot remove Norton Download Manager

I haven't seen it since Friday, May 17th. So, maybe it's gone for good. If that's the case, it had to be removing removing the remediation entry in the Task Scheduler.

Thanks again everyone for your suggestions.
