Can't adjust Vault security settings

The options to change some of the security settings are not available in my local vault. I am mainly interested in being able to keep the local vault open following a re-boot. Screen shot is in the attached pdf file. Thanks.

PS: I notice some posts in the forum have images inserted into the post, but I don't see any way to do this. Is this for admins only? Thanks again.

Hello

Here are the instructions for posting screenshots. The images will be under moderation and they have to be approved before they become visible to every one. Since it is the weekend now, they probably won't be approved until Sunday night or on Monday.

Re: Can't adjust Vault security settings

Hi edwardbe,

First of all the bad news, the security Tab you are looking at is for an Online Vault and is also missing the circles that would provide a different option:

Below is an image of the Security Tab with a Local Vault, which does in fact give you the option to Log into ID Safe when Windows starts (the option it sounds like you are looking for:

Please let us know if you just upgraded or what you did in order to make things change from your prior experience.  It looks like something may be corrupt - are you running a Norton Product or the free Stand Alone Identity Safe (IDSS)?

Re: Can't adjust Vault security settings

Hi Yank,

There should be an About tab with the IDSS, but yes it does look odd with the options (circles).

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.

I didn't upgrade and I have no prior experience since I just started using the Identity Safe feature. I am using a Norton Product, Norton Internet Security. I guess I don't know what is meant by local vs. online vault. I thought local meant the vault is part of NIS running on my computer. I have had NIS installed locally on my computer for years and only in the last few months have been using the vault in Chrome. I noticed that the vault was closed when I rebooted and out of irritation searched with Google and ended up here. The settings for the Vault within the main application that runs in my system tray and the settings for the Vault in Chrome and Firefox look the same as pictured in the previous screen shot, that is, with the stay logged in during reboot option unavailable.

Re: Can't adjust Vault security settings

Please look at the two images I posted above, pay attention to the first option in each image.  Which option is listed first on your system?  If the upper image, you have a Local Vault, if the lower image you have an Online Vault.  Either (or both) vaults can be used with your NIS product.

Please also verify that the circles (for selection of options) are missing from your system as shown in your PDF.

Re: Can't adjust Vault security settings

The circles are indeed missing as shown in my PDF. Neither of the two images above apply. There are no options available. Everything is set in stone. Perhaps I should remove the Norton Identity Safe add-in from Chrome and Firefox and reboot my computer? Thanks again for your time.

Re: Can't adjust Vault security settings

Hello edwardbe

There was a Firefox add-on patch this morning which enabled the toolbar for Firefox 38. It also included some backend fixes for all 3 browsers. The patch had to be applied. Please check your Log History under Live Updates and see if that is listed for today. If it's not there, then please try running live update manually a few times with restarts  in between until it comes thru the live update. See if that patch helps any.

Re: Can't adjust Vault security settings

The situation doesn't seem to be browser dependent. If I click on the Norton Internet Security icon in my system tray, Norton Internet Security starts, a black window with a list of options across the top of the window: Settings - Performance - Feedback - Account - Support. When I click on Settings a window opens that lists several tabs: Computer - Network - Web - General. clicking on web reveals several possibilities with Identity Safe as one of them. Clicking on Identity Safe shows that it is on and there is a link labelled configure. Clicking on configure brings up the same exact dialog box I get when I click on the Vault in one of the browsers with a little cog at the bottom left of the screen. Clicking on that shows multiple tabs, one of which is the security tab that I posted a screen shot of in the original post and it looks just like it does in the screen shot, so this seems to have nothing to do with Firefox or Chrome, just some kind of eccentricity in my particular copy of Norton Internet Security. Thanks again.

Re: Can't adjust Vault security settings

Hello

I think your best bet would be to reinstall your Norton product. What is the version number and name of the product when you look at Help/Support>About?

Re: Can't adjust Vault security settings

Yes, thanks. I ran the Norton Remove and Re-install tool and now I have the upper of the two images of the security tab in yank's post above. So I am stuck with the online version, I guess, unless there is a way to change from one to the other. Thanks for letting me take up so much of your time, one and all.

Hello

Perhaps elsewhere's thread will help you.

https://community.norton.com/en/forums/retaining-your-local-vault    Perhaps you can get it back by following his thread. I'm not sure if this is the thread where he shows how to do it or not.
