Can't Connect to Internet without VPN

I am running Norton 360 and Windows 11 on my computer which is connected to my gateway by WiFi.

Sometimes (but not always) in the past few days when I turn on my computer or start after resting and launch my browser I can't connect to my home page or the internet.

The VPN is off in these circumstances and when I turn the VPN on I can then immediately connect to the internet.   I can then turn VPN off and still connect to the internet.

This is an annoyance but might turn into a real problem if I can't connect to the internet because of Norton 360

I've tried resetting the firewall but the problem recurred after that.

Thanks for the time.  The problem is not that the VPN is not working.  The problem is that I can't connect to the internet  after booting or starting (when VPN is off).

Some suggestions from Microsoft:

Also keep in mind that where computers are allowed to sleep/hibernate your internet connection can go stale and require a system restart. Conversely, if a VPN is off and there isn't a connection available, other issues may be the cause. Step # 7 in Guru bjm_ link is the best common sense suggestion. Make sure you restart.

I had a similar issue. Internet blocked but noticed Norton VPN turned off. When I turned it on the internet worked. 

I then checked Windows (11) Network and Internet Settings and noticed settings for their VPN which I've never noticed before. Norton advised they have nothing to do with it so I ensured I turned all the settings to OFF.

I am wondering that if Windows VPN was on it may have caused a clash with Norton VPN resulting in a wifi disconnection

Do you have a VPN profile on your PC?

Thanks for confirming that this problem does exist for more than me.  I did check the VPN settings and as far as I can see there is no WIndows VPN.  Did this fix the problem for you?  As above the WiFi connection is usually there but not the internet connection although I do see intermittent WiFi disconnects but much less frequent that internet disconnects.

I am still encountering this problem.

As far as I can see I don't have any VPN profile in Windows 11 Settings.

I dont think I have a Norton VPN profile  either. I've gone to Norton VPN settings  and Notifications but no option to be notified when VPN is off.

do you still have this problem? I have exactly the same problem since two weeks. When Norton support connected remotely to my device and somehow they fixed the problem for one day... but now the problem is back again. Do you got already a solution from Norton support?

I've got the same problem too.  When I boot my computer up in morning and and access Chrome I've noticed it successfully 'loads' my pre-set tabs but even tho' there is a wifi connection showing, it won't connect to the individual web pages.  If I then open Norton and turn on the VPN, it then connects to individual web pages OK. 

I don't generally don't like using the VPN all the time as I find with the VPN connected the lap top seems to run a bit slow so I turn VPN off and am able to connect to individual web sites appear OK.

I have a similar problem if I put my lap top to sleep too.  When I 'wake' the lap top again, the VPN has usually turned itself off, I can't connect to the internet so I have to go through the same routine of turning the VPN on again and refreshing the web pages to continue.

It's very frustrating.

All: By default Windows will terminate active connections when the power policies are set to do to, sleep mode or hibernation. Try some of the following suggestion in the below article and post results.
