Can't Delete Backup Files!

So I am trying to clear my mom's laptop for her and get it running faster again, and she had the Norton 360 through Xfinity. There is a backup folder that is over 400 gigs that I just want to delete, as it is nothing she needs anymore and we are deleting everything. There's a lock icon on the folder, and when I try to delete it, it says I need admin permission to do so. This is the only account on the laptop, and it IS admin. Very frustrated with this, and I just want to get it deleted.

Hi lskaaos6.

Welcome to the Norton Community Forums.

Is N360 still active on the device?  If it is then the backup is probably active and that may be blocking things. Therefore if N360 is still on the device I recommend that you turn off the backup feature (at least temporarily) and then try to delete the N36_BACKUP folder once that has been done.

Go to Settings and uncheck the Backup and Backup Status Overlays boxes, save if necessary and back out of N360 and try again.

Do let us know how you get on.

Re: Can't Delete Backup Files!

Originally it had been uninstalled when I tried, but now it has been re-installed. I was able to delete some of the files through the program itself but there's still a large amount. Either way it won't let me delete the folder.

But have you now switched off the Backup features in the software?

Yes, I turned them off and tried but it gives me the same thing when I try to delete the folder.

Re: Can't Delete Backup Files!

Hello again lskaaos6.

I assume that the N360_BACKUP folder you are trying to delete is on the C: drive (which seems an odd place to have it but that is what  your posts seem to imply), and I have not come across this problem there before.  It might help to know what operating system you are running but in the interim you might like to use Windows Explorer to look at the folder and then check "properties" and "Security" and check that you do have full admin rights.  If it has any doubt try confirming that you do and see if that makes any difference.

Oh and have you rebooted the machine since you switched Backup off?

Re: Can't Delete Backup Files!

Yes, it is on the C: drive, my mom doesn't know much about this stuff so she must have set that. I didn't think it made much sense myself. This laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium. I know I did check the properties and stuff but I will look again. I have rebooted but I will try that again as well.

I got it figured out! I failed to click on the Edit button under the Permissions. Thank you for your help!
