can't find the file in D drive

dear Norton Community,

recently my client come to replace their hardisk from 80Gb to 500GB, so i do a clean instal on the new 500GB hardisk. after that I continue to moved their old data in 80GB hardisk on D drive to the new one, but i found that the D drive was empty, even in the 'My Computer" indicates that the D drive isn't empty and have 25GB data in D drive, but when i open it there's no file except "RECYCLER" and "System Volume Information", and they're in "hidden file" mode.

is it this cause by virus attack or what ? i've already scan the hardisk and found no virus with my norton internet security which is virus definition updated.

anyone can help me with this problem ?

thx before.

Re: can't find the file in D drive

Unfortunate, you could try this solution, it helped me once before:

- Open any drive location and click on organize.

- Select options folder and search options, and then click on the view tab (In any drive)

- Now check the box near "Hide protected operating system files" under the sub heading of hidden files and folders, click ok

Hopefully, this helps you.

Re: can't find the file in D drive

Irwan01 Sounds like you need to reset the "ownership" on the old hard drive so that your new account has access to the entire drive. Here are some steps to follow:

In Explorer, right click the drive in question and select Properties

On the Security tab click Advanced
On the Owner tab
Select your account if it isn't already and
Check "Replace owner on sub-containers and objects"
Click OK twice (close all dialogs)

That sets you as owner of every folder and file on the drive

In Explorer, right click the drive in question and select Properties

On the Security tab add your account if it is not already there and set Full Access
Click Apply
Click Advanced
Check "Replace permission on all child objects with......"

Click Apply

Please let us know if this solved your issue.

Cheers

If it has been solved, would be great to know the solution that helped out. Also, I have never heard about file Owner being a problem, thanks for that SoulAsylum, ill keep that in mind in the future.
