Can't update Norton Utilities

I keep getting the message "Core product files have been modified Please run Smart update or reinstall the product."  on Norton Utilities version 16.0.2.39.  I run smart update which downloads and installs 5.42MB and then tells me to reboot, which I do.  After reboot the version is still 16.0.2.39 and I get the "Core product files have been modified Please run Smart update or reinstall the product." message again....  I have even tried re-installing NU from the website, but that just downloads 16.0.2.39 again - how do I get version 16.0.2.53 installed?

Re: Can't update Norton Utilities

Are you actually restarting your computer or shutting down and starting up again? If you use Windows 8/8.1 or 10, there can be an issue with the Fast Start feature.. See more information here.

Re: Can't update Norton Utilities

Thanks for the reply, I tried disabling fast start but unfortunately this did not seem to fix my issue.  In the end I contacted Norton support who logged into my PC and fixed the problem.

Thanks for letting us know.

Did you happen to notice what support did to fix the problem? This could help others that might run into the same problem.

Re: Can't update Norton Utilities

I had already tried re-installing Norton Utilities before, but there were two things I noticed support did differently:

- They installed Norton Utilities on my C: drive (I had it on the D: drive before)

- When they re-installed I believe they used an older version of the software (than the one I downloaded) before updating it.
