changing NIS to Norton Security

hi everyone I have some questions.

my NIS subscription will end in several days and so I have purchased a renewal, since NIS is no longer renewable I decided to purchase 1 year subscription on Norton Security Deluxe.

I have received e-mail from Norton about link where I can download the product.

the question is: do I have to uninstall NIS before I install Norton Security?

I remember reading somewhere that if I try to install Norton Security it will just simply uninstall NIS in the process and I won't have to do anything. But is that true?

I am also concerned about how Norton Security is different program from NIS, but I heard its quite similar in term of function, that said is there any specific differences that I need to be wary of?

Lastly, since I still have several days worth of NIS subscription is it possible to add it to my Norton Security subscription? assuming they are two different product.

Thank you

Re: changing NIS to Norton Security

Hi, Dainsleaf. This link might help explain the changes.

http://www.nortonsecurityonline.com/norton-security-vs-old-products.html

You should be able to overinstall NIS with Norton Security, and it should pick up all your details.

However, I would after the install, run Live Update until no more are found, and then restart.

Also, go through your settings to ensure nothing has changed.

If you contact Support after this is done, they will normally add any remaining days from your previous subscription.

Re: changing NIS to Norton Security

Hello Dainsleaf

You should install Norton Security now since the countdown started when you bought the program. That is something that is new. You can have a chat with Customer Support and they may add back the remaining days from NIS. Here is the chat url to use.  www.norton,com/chat  That is the official Norton Customer Support.

When you open up the box, you will find a card with the new key on it and also a link where you can find the new program to download. That is because you can only buy the program as a download. There are no more disks to install from. A CD is a static program which gets old fast. If you have to reinstall, you will find a pre-activated copy of the program in your manage.norton.com account which is also known as mynortonaccount.com.. That link will bring you to manage.norton account also.

When you download and install NS Deluxe, you can install it on top of NIS  provided you did not have any issues with your NIS program. It will uninstall your NIS program, then ask you to install Norton Security Deluxe. If there are any programs installed which will conflict, it will ask you to uninstall those programs. In case you don't have a download link, you can use www.norton.com/latestns. When you have downloaded the new program, please remember to run Live Update until it says there are no more updates to receive, restarting when asked to.. When all finished installing it, then restart once more. It is good for 5 devices depending where you are located. That includes, computers--both Windows and Macs, tablets, Androids, and iOs cell phones. Just go to your manage account and you can download it from there or go to help on the front of the first product you install and you will find a link giving you a link to follow to install it..

I'll leave the remaining questions for someone else to answer.

Thanks.

Re: changing NIS to Norton Security

Installed the product, a bit slow on the download part ended up pausing and resuming the download several time, also transferred the remaining subscription from the old product

so far so good, almost no noticeable difference from NIS.
no problem on the quick scan too

will need to try offline scan later, but for now no problem I guess

Thanks for the info and suggestion

Hello F 4E

Looks like we posted around the same time. I might have fallen asleep in the middle of typing  and then continued the post when I woke up and saved it, therefore not seeing that you had posted the answer.

Thanks.

Re: changing NIS to Norton Security

I was a little concerned when I saw the statement that the subscription time stared when the program was purchased.  I bought Security Deluxe over a month ago, but haven't installed or activated it.  I just contacted Norton using chat and they tell me that the subscription time won't start until I install and activate. They looked up my product key and the full year is still there.

EssaTD2: I was a little concerned when I saw the statement that the subscription time stared when the program was purchased.

Frequently asked questions about Norton renewal and new product purchases.
1) Note: New subscription clock begins when your purchase is completed for online payments, (or otherwise, when your payment is received).  See FAQ and *Important pricing terms, offer details and disclosures, bottom of page: http://us.norton.com/
2) As soon as 'renewal' is purchased, the additional subscription time is added to the existing time. The customer doesn't need to enter a key or anything, the current key just gets updated.

3) A 'new' subscription purchase - where you buy a new key to enter into the product - will NOT add the subscription time to the existing/remaining time.
4)
If you're purchasing on Norton.com, your subscription clock starts at purchase. Otherwise, the subscription clock starts at activation.

Re: changing NIS to Norton Security

is that true that NIS is now longer renewable? I had just renewed it in Sept 2016. Did this information just recently change?

Yes, and where did you read that your NIS is no longer renewable.

Re: changing NIS to Norton Security

NIS is no longer available for purchase. That is why bjm_ has asked where the poster saw it could not be renewed.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.
