CLEANSERP.NET Hijacked search settings on Google Chrome

It appears that Norton Security Suite does not see "cleanserp.net" and 'untabs' as threats? I have been trying to remove these from my Chrome settings and have had no success. Cleanserp.net is now my default search engine. There are many so-called fixes available but all of them seem to be self-serving fixes which require me to buy their tool. None of those fixes looks 'honest' to me.

Any ideas?

Re: CLEANSERP.NET Hijacked search settings on Google Chrome

It looks like you have picked up a PUP, a Possibly Unwanted Program. While they are annoying, they do not cause damage to your system. Some people actually want the 'Features' offered by these programs. They are usually downloaded alongside a legitimate download when you do not uncheck the option for the additional download.

Norton products concentrate on malware that can damage your system, that is why some PUPs are not detected.

Contact Norton Support and ask for the Virus Protection Promise. They will remote into your system and remove what regular Norton scans were not able to remove.  www.norton.com/contactcs

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: CLEANSERP.NET Hijacked search settings on Google Chrome

I think you are right but I do believe that it is indeed true malware in that I have read in a few postings when I search for "what does cleanserp.net do" that it is likely sending data from my machine to cleanserp. Also http://www.removemalwarevirus.com/infected-with-cleanserp-net-try-this-c...

See http://www.removemalwarevirus.com/infected-with-cleanserp-net-try-this-c... as well.

I have finally cleared it from my machine after using the Chrome Policy Remover

Hi and thank you for posting in the Google Chrome Help Forum.

To remove the annoying home page -

  1. Download the Chrome policy remover.

  2. Right click it and select Run as administrator.

  3. Click Yes at the confirmation prompt and allow the process to complete.

Then do a reset of Chrome and restart the browser

Glad you found a solution. Thanks for posting back.

Pups are a type of malware, but some are more obnoxious than others.

I have no idea where Cleanserp came from and i too found it a real pain to get rid of.

The Chrome Policy remover finally did it and actually took no time at all once i found it.

THANK YOU!
