Confusing Wording in Window for Open Vault

The window that appears when you open the vault is confusing to some users.  My quite sharp 94 year old mother in-law has unfortunately created a cloud vault she doesn't want and she now becomes confused when when she sees the phrase "Open Local Vault" or Open Cloud Vault" in the window.  While I know this phrase is meant to be a question and not a statement, she takes it to mean that the window will open the local vault (not "do you want to change to the local vault?").  As a result, when she enters her password she once again opens the cloud vault (nearly empty), becomes concerned, and calls me.

I suggest that this window be slightly reworded to read "Change to Local Vault?" or "Change to Cloud Vault?".  Better yet would be to add something that says "enter password to open Local (or Cloud) vault so it is clear what will happen.  Thanks.

If she signs out of her account she shouldn't get that phrase, just the Open Vault prompt.  She will need to keep an eye out for prompts to 'Sync' though.  Syncing will remove the local vault.

Please disregard.

I only have Local.  I get Open Cloud Vault
Do I understand your quote.

You're right!

Sorry about that.

I tried logging her out but still got the confusing wording.  You are very correct about Sync and she did wipe out the local, Norton helped us get it back.  I wish I knew how to make the cloud just go away so we didn't have this option.

Something to try.  Log into the Local Vault, open the Settings via the three dots on the Norton Toolbar and select Open Identity Safe Settings.  Select the Security Tab and place a check mark in the Automatically open my vault when Windows starts > Save.

This should auto log her into her Local Vault whenever she boots up the system.

I just tried the above on my Win 7 system running Norton Security with Backup.  A restart auto logged me into my Local Vault.  This way the confusion over the Local/Online is voided.

Let us know if that works for you also.

Entering three different incorrect Online Vault passwords asks you if you desire to delete your online vault - more info here:

Re: Confusing Wording in Window for Open Vault

Thanks, I made the settings change and I'll delete the online vault later.  I appreciate you reaching out with the suggestion.

I will note that as I made the setting change I got a Norton spam window asking if I wanted to convert my Local vault to the Cloud.  This is more potential confusion for her when I'm not around and probably how we created a cloud vault and deleted the local vault in the first place.  If there is a way to stop the Cloud offers I would do that too.

Thanks again,

Roger

Re: Confusing Wording in Window for Open Vault

Hi Roger, I am sorry to say that I do not know of a way to avoid what you call a "Norton spam window" requesting conversion to online.

<EDIT>  Perhaps if you can get a screen shot of the spam window, print it out and tell her to always say NO when she sees that image?

Re: Confusing Wording in Window for Open Vault

Thanks again.

I wasn't trying to be snarky, only looking to minimize her opportunities for bad selections.

She has a notebook of preferred choices and I will add the window to the list.
