Constant requests to open port

I am constantly being asked to allow/deny ports for roc.locked and roc.statd.  I say allow and always take this action and it just asks me for more ports. I have tried going in and authorizing the application but it will not allow me to select them from usr/bin.  I have set rpc to allow all connections but that does not help.  This happens in waves with it asking me dozens of times over a short period of time, then slowing down, them resuming.  I have removed and reinstalled norton to no effect.  At this point I am so tired of it that I have turned off connection blocking.

Is there a way to stop this?

Re: Constant requests to open port

Hello. Is your OS giving you these alerts, Norton or both? When you said " I have tried going in and authorizing the application but it will not allow me to select them from usr/bin." This is a command line interface with MAC OS. What if anything is Norton presenting? Please post a screenshot if you'd be so kind so the community may have a look at what you are seeing. Here is how: https://community.norton.com/en/forums/how-post-image-forums-0

Re: Constant requests to open port

It is Norton, not the os.  Here is the dialog box.  I get another one for rpc.statd   Both of these are in /usr/bin  If I go to the advanced tab in Norton and go to application it (Norton) will not allow me to pick either one to permanently authorize

Re: Constant requests to open port

Hello again. Are you using admin rights on your system?

Re: Constant requests to open port

I have been on admin and non admin accounts when dealing with the open ports dialog.  When trying to authorize the applications, I have been on an admin account as that is the only way you can do it.

Thanks for the update. What is your OS version? I ask because of this vulnerability if systems aren't properly patched: https://www.howtogeek.com/334611/huge-macos-bug-allows-root-login-without-a-password.-heres-the-fix/

Re: Constant requests to open port

When you uninstalled your Norton product did you use this tool and follow these steps? If not please do, reinstall and please let us know if things change.

No I used the normal uninstall tool

Re: Constant requests to open port

Used your uninstall tool and reinstalled.  As of now, it has asked me for permissions only once.  Hopefully this is the end of it.

Thanks.

Awesome news. Let us know if the removal suggestion corrects the issue permanently.

Re: Constant requests to open port

The problem showed back up today.  I was hoping it would stay fixed but no such luck.

Unless there is some way of fixing it other than completely uninstalling and reinstalling every time it starts to happen I will have to consider some other alternative.  It is simply too annoying and time consuming to have to uninstall and reinstall or deal with the constant requests to open ports.

Re: Constant requests to open port

In this instance the problem may be related to Fujitsu Snapscan software.  I believe that the software uses RPC and upon updating the software to the most recent version the prompts to open ports appears to have disappeared again.  We shall see.

Re: Constant requests to open port

Just an FYI!! Looking into your Snapscan software there are a few issues known on High Sierra. And another article from the MAC community regarding RPC.
