Cookies being deleted

Greetings,

I just installed Norton Security Starter Edition version 22.1.0.9. When I ran a Full System Scan, I lost all of my Internet Explorer cookies. I had the same problem with Antivirus.

Re: Cookies being deleted

Hi Shane,

Open the NIS GUI, go to: Settings> Antivirus> Manage scans and risks> Scan cookies, set to Ignore and hit "Apply".
Some words may vary, I'm using a language other than English.
Could you confirm which version of Internet Explorer you are running. There is a known issue to manage cookies with IE11.
The link you posted, bjm_ suggested to manage tracking cookies with Ccleaner, do you have tried to use it?

Re: Cookies being deleted

Hi Shane,

Is it only occuring when performing a full scan?

You could try to disable that Norton should clear cookies when performing a background task or full scan.

Go to Norton Security > Options > Scheduling of tasks > and uncheck following: temporary Internet Explorer files, Internet Explorer history.

Let me know if this solved your problem.

Re: Cookies being deleted

My settings are Settings > Antivirus >  Scans and Risks > Tracking Cookies Scan: Ask Me.

It only happens during a Full System Scan. After a scan is complete, it usually finds tracking cookies, which I quarantine. I'm not sure exactly when all of my other cookies are deleted.

I haven't installed CCleaner. It doesn't look like it can save/restore cookies.

I'm using Internet Explorer 11.0.9600.17501. What is the known issue managing cookies?

Thanks,
Shane.

Re: Cookies being deleted

Hi Shane,

Norton has two different setting for scanning. Short and Full. The Post by Sandro is for the Short Scan.

Full Scan Settings: GUI > Settings > Antivirus > Scans and Risks > Full System Scan (Configure) > Scan Options. Then set your tracking cookies to what you want. > Save.

I meant that IE11 doesn't handle cookies as it should, this doesn't happen with IE10 and there are users who use IE10 for that too. I have no knowledge to say why this happens. In short, IE11 has some bugs that were not fixed, so far.

Thanks PTD, this is right. I forgot to say to set this as well for full system scans. I manually run full scans taking that setting disabled.

Re: Cookies being deleted

Hello Shane

I have my cookie scans set to ignore. That way it doesn't delete or do anything with the cookies. I also have IE11 set to keep my favorites which it does. The cookies that you want should be listed in my favorites. You can manually delete any cookies you don't want.

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view. Windows 10 Pro 64 bit Norton Core Security Plus 22.19.8.65 Core Firmware 282 Chrome latest version.

Re: Cookies being deleted

I'm losing all my cookies again. I have Tracking Cookies Scan set to Ask Me. When the scan was finished, it found a tracking cookie, which I quarantined, but at some point all of my cookies were also removed.

Re: Cookies being deleted

There is also a planned Task in Settings, which removes IE stuff.

Go to Settings, then in the second column to Taskmanager (or the like, i use Dutch version) and uncheck IE items there.

Re: Cookies being deleted

When I go to Settings and click Tasks Scheduling, I can see that none of the four items are checked, including Internet Explorer Temporary Files.

Thanks for the suggestion.
