Copy & Paste to this forum.

Dear all,

Lately I have been experiencing FAILED copy and paste.  I sometimes, will highlight information within users and wanted to paste into my reply instead of using QUOTES features,  but have failed many times.

I even tried to copy and paste it to NOTEPAD, and paste it into my reply.  But failed too.

How can I handle the Copy and paste issue.

Hi Sea_Monster,

After highlighting the part you want to copy, try using your browser's pasting feature (for example in Firefox, go to Edit >Paste; in Internet Explorer 8, go to Page>Paste); tell us if this works.

In the meantime, which browser (including browser version) are you using?

I myself am not experiencing any problems (Firefox 3.6.10).

Your Norton Ladybug.

Re: Copy & Paste to this forum.

Sea_Monster,

I don't seem to experience problems with Copy/Paste in the text editor. I use FF 3.6.10. If you are using any other browser, we will try out and let you know how we get on.

Hi Sea_Monster, this is a known issue with copy and paste, using Google Chrome. This will be fixed in the next version.

Thanks!

Re: Copy & Paste to this forum.

Shannons,

Is there any chance of dropping those intermediate boxes that come up especially the one that you have to click in with your mouse, Paste, and then mouse click on Insert all of which can involve switiching from keyboard to mouse to keyboard to mouse and back to keyboard and which does not stop the reply editor from rejecting invalid HTML which is infuriating when what one is pasting in comes from the forum itself!

I hate to think how much time is litereally wasted by this intervention .... and what is it (or rather Them since there are two different interventions) meant to achieve?

Please .....

XP Pro with IE7 on this particular machine ......

That is a great idea, Hugh. We will certainly look into this and see what can be done. Thank you for the suggestion!

Re: Copy & Paste to this forum.

Hi Folks,

Let's not forget the global keyboard shortcut for copy/paste. Ctrl + C to copy and Ctrl + V to paste. This should work regardless of browser or any other settings.

Best wishes.

Re: Copy & Paste to this forum.

Allen --

Unfortunately those keyboard shortcuts do not always work for me -- that's only in these forums and I know it is not the keyboard since I replaced it when this started!

I can copy from somewhere into the clipboard, insert the cursor in the editor here (and not you can get a flashing cursor but if you have not actually clicked in the typing space you can type on the keyboard or you can use shortcuts and nothing happens) and CTRL + V will not paste; will not call up those dreadful intermediaries. But RMC and Paste works ......

Hello Hugh

Have you tried turning off clipboard in word?

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view. Windows 10 Pro 64 bit Norton Core Security Plus 22.17.3.50 Core Firmware 282 I E 11 Chrome latest version.

I use Word 2002 and I don't think I ever had it ON ... didn't know what you were referring to until just now when I checked the various menu items in it and found Clipboard ... which when clicked on gave my a column labled Clipboard that seemed to intended to be used like a Paste area in Publisher ...

Anyway it was no ON.

Re: Copy & Paste to this forum.

Hello Hugh

I have Office 2003. I didn't know about clipboard either. i was having a problem in the Forum that every time I wanted to paste something into my post, this clipboard thing would come up and ask me if i wanted to allow it for something. I always said no to it and a clipboard would open up and I had to paste what I wanted to paste into that first and then that put it into my post. It was a pain to do it like that. I hardly ever use Office and only have it on here cause my son installed it. I Googled and then finally found how to turn off that clipboard that was in Word. I just found out that the other day, and now no problem with pasting into the forum except that invalid html from one Forum post to another. The clipboard request thing only came up in this Forum and not in any others. That's why I mentioned the clipboard to you thinking maybe it is some how affecting you as it had been with me.

Re: Copy & Paste to this forum.

Something is triggering it -- anyway Shannons said she would check it out.

Re: Copy & Paste to this forum.

Hi Hugh,

What I have noticed is sometimes when I use Ctrl + V I get that annoying pop-up box about the clipboard and I have not been able to figure out exactly what triggers it but once I do get that it seems that Ctrl + V will not work properly and will keep bringing up that annoying pop up every time. The only way I have been able to get that to stop is to completely exit the editor and hit Reply again whereupon it starts acting normal once again.

Apart from that I have never seen Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V fail to work so I'm not sure what could be causing this problem unfortunately.

Best wishes.

Re: Copy & Paste to this forum.

We might find out if Lithium would kill those silly intermediary semi-clipboards that you have to paste into. I would not be surprised if they intercept something that Windows does not expect to be interrupted.

Until I hear why those boxes come up and what purpose they are meant to serve I want to see them as history and pinned up on the programmers' wall as an example of the Law of Unintended Consequences ....

Okay, I have tried to use Copy/Cut and paste by opening another tab with Norton Forum and copy information from it.  That seems to be working well.

Yes, it work with IE & FF, but not Chrome.

Uhmmm....I could not retrack the problems I had initially when I was using the copy and paste feature.  But I think several users have given better explaination on the problems I encountered.

Thank you
