core router needs rebooting every hour or so

Set up Norton Core with my FIOS Gateway in bridge mode.  the wired and wireless networks are unstable dropping every hour or so.  WTF?  Tech support helped me change DNS from Norton DNS to ISP DNS.  Did not resolve problem.  Everything is installed as of this week so I presume I have the latest firmware, etc.   Tech support has been helpful but not completely successful.  Your expert advice would be most appreciated.  If there isn't a resolution to this, I may as well just return for $ and go back to using the router in the gateway.

Re: core router needs rebooting every hour or so

Hello Jon. I too have FIOS services so please allow me to ask a few questions. 1- What FIOS device do you have, model name would be helpful to know. Is it a "gateway" device, meaning does it have wifi built in? Or do you have a "direct" fiber connection, meaning, no FIOS device and are using an Ethernet connection straight from FIOS to the router.

2-Do you also have TV & VOIP phone services with your FIOS subscription? The reason for asking is if you have those services DHCP MUST remain active on the FIOS device for those services to work.

3-Are there any other devices connected between your FIOS connection and the Core.

Knowing these basics will help us get started with assisting you further.

Cheers

Re: core router needs rebooting every hour or so

9:40 AM

thank you for jumping in

1) the fios device was recently replaced/upgraded and includes modem and router. Model Fios G1100.   Fios put it in bridge mode for norton core.  Model # to follow.

2) yes, we have triple play though I think they use a different device.  tell me more about DHCP requirements, please.

3) no, core is plugged into FIOS device directly

getting desparate

Re: core router needs rebooting every hour or so

Hello

I have FIOS also. I don't think you have it set up correctly. Since we got Firmware 226, the connection is rock solid. I have switched back to Norton DNS . I used to have ISP DNS, but not in the last couple of weeks.

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.

Are you using Android or IOS?

Re: core router needs rebooting every hour or so

Jon the Core will automatically update its firmware on its own. You can check the version by opening the app, tap the 3 bars at the top left. Then tap settings. Scroll down to "about" and tap that. It will show your app version as well as the firmware version.

Re: core router needs rebooting every hour or so

Hello again Jon. When you said;

2) yes, we have triple play though I think they use a different device.  tell me more about DHCP requirements, please

Your G1100 should be routing ALL your data for your TV and VOIP phone connections on that one device. DHCP should remain ENABLED because Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a protocol for assigning dynamic IP addresses to devices on a network. Having FIOS triple play here shutting down DHCP causes my TV and phones to go dead. On the FIOS G1100 the wireless on that device should be disabled. My FIOS setup is Core plugged into LAN port 1 on the FIOS gateway, both the FIOS device and Core were rebooted simultaneously. This may help you get your setup straightened out.  http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r31057540-Networking-HOW-TO-Bridge-G1100-So-your-Router-becomes-Primary

Re: core router needs rebooting every hour or so

Hello Jon

A new Firmware was released on Friday. It is number 229. Perhaps this new one has fixed your issues. If your Core is connected to the Internet, perhaps it received the new Firmware.

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.
