Crazy backUP: What are the memory boundaries for storage

How much data need to be protected? About 200 gb.

How much space is actually used to store copies? About 850 gb(!!!!!!!!!!).

Backup feature keeps even those files that was deleted by the user. It isn't reason. (*1)

There are two questions: 1) Why so much space (850)? 2) Imagine that Norton keeps old copies of files, deleted files (and (*1)-reason)...imagine that my disk size is 500 gb (<850)...the question is: What will do Norton, if it has managed to turn 200 to 850?

@CorvusCorax47:

Are you using Norton Online Backup? If so, the below pages will help U out:

 Then, I am still little bit confused re your "disk size is 500 gb". What I'm hearing you said is some hard disk (C (startup disk )? D?) on your computer is full, right? Like the one as shown below?

If so, none will be able to write any more file on that disk. Whatever, the following tips will help you out:

  • 1st, run the disk cleanup utility - do not miss out on the system files
  • Second, try moving some personal items, and downloaded stuff. There are a few different folders (e.g., the Downloads folder, Documents, Music, Pictures and Video folders, etc.) you can move from the C drive to the D/other drive on your computer.

And, Norton Remove and Reinstall tool will do the trick effectively, if you have trouble cleaning up old Norton virus definition files yourself.

For more info, you may Chat with Norton Support.

Please post back if this or any other comment solves your problem. THX...

Hello Numbers

Don't think that will help his backup drive.

Thanks.

Use NSwB.

Visually: the size of copies on disk and what is the size of the protected data.

Reinstallation will not help. This is not a bug of the product.

A2261: I do not want to pay for additional storage space, as the program keeps the garbage. The amount of data - S(=212gb ), the number of copies ~ 4 * S. Why?

@CorvusCorax47:

Please pay a visit to this page, then watch the video re How to delete a backup set and the files that you backed up.

Then, you may ALSO need to learn how to customize backup in your Norton Security.

Important: Under File Types, select the file categories that you want to back up.
If you do not want to backup any particular category, uncheck it. To add additional files or folders, click Add or exclude files and folders (E.G., some personal docs, movies, media files, etc.), and then click Include File or Include Folder to select the files or folders.

If I may ask, are you also using Microsoft's OneDrive? If so, this thread and this article@ NYT may help U out.

PS: As to A2261, you may ignore that solution when it comes to NSBU. Yet, that page also contains useful tips, e.g., "Exclude some of the less important files and folders from your backup set.", "Purge your online storage space."

Thanks. :)

Hello SOJ

We refer to  207 as Numbers. The Numbers you have pointed out has NOT been online for over 8 Years.! There are others who refer to him/her as Numbers or numbers, but I don't see you telling them that there is another Numbers.  You only check out my posts looking for something to criticize me about. If you must keep checking out customer's posts, start picking on someone else PLEASE.

Thanks.

Solution: Norton Removal Tool, not NRaRT.

Symantec should improve Backup I think. It should remove old backups automatically and leave only latest copies..

I agree. You must install the shelf life of old things.
