Credit Card Information

Good Day,

My subscription came up for auto renewal, my credit card was canceled 1 month before renewal date, I received a new card and number from my bank. Assuming Norton cannot auto renew my subscription without my new credit card number. IT HAPPENED! They sent me a renewal confirmation with my new credit card number on the receipt! How can this happen as I have not given them my new credit card number ?

BEWILDERED ????

Re: Credit Card Information

Yes, merchants can get new card info on recurring charges.
Credit Card companies e.g., American Express, Visa, MasterCard and Discover - offer “updater” services to provide merchants with consumers’ new credit card numbers and expiration dates.

Re: Credit Card Information

Banking contracts with companies like Visa are the reason. Almost every industry type does it and its not illegal, although, deceptive on its face. I had this happen to me last year, although, the new card WAS NEVER IN MY POSESSION. Visa automatically sent the new card info, with my banks blessing, to everyone on auto-pay that was on my account. Automobile financing account, car insurance account, etc. This was NOT Bill Pay or one of the other services offered through financial institutions I might add. Just what I have set for automatic withdrawal on a reoccurring basis. A total mess and cost me a ton of money in the end game. I did recover those loses though. Long story short, my attorney straightened things out  with my banking institution via a bank fraud filing. It got their attention really fast. This is how it happens. At least in my instance. Visa, and others should be aware of the serious implications their quoted " policies" have on consumers and its all deeply buried in their EULA agreements in places we don't normally look.

Re: Credit Card Information

Thanks so much for your information! It is very helpful !

It's UNBELIEVABLE how this can happen without your bank even giving you a notification of the request ? Where is the " CONSENT " ?

Re: Credit Card Information

Consent, is always DEEPLY BURIED in the companies end user license agreement EULA or disclaimers. Its not illegal but certainly not in the best interest of the customer or end user. I would as I have learned to do, read those agreements in fine detail. I obviously missed it when my bank updated their "policies". The claim is always the same "policies are in place to protect you the customer", don't bite on it. Just a heads up.

Re: Credit Card Information

Same for car rental. I had an issue with toll charges. The rental company informed me that they no longer handled that, an a third party did that for them They also passed on my card number and apparently the right to charge my card. I was thrown off by the "epass" device attached to the windshield. It was broken. I normally rack up 250.00 a month, rented the car for 60 days while my car waited and waited for parts (crash). I fell over when my card was charged not 400-500 but 1500.00. Who reads a rental agreement that deeply. There should be a law limiting agreements to 300 words instead of a whole bunch of "not our fault, you pay and pay".

Why so much? They don't pass on the discount and also charge for pics of your plate.

I suspect that maybe the epass device works but the discount is not passed on. Discount is usually 50%.
