Damaging ssd's worldwide??????

I recently got the new updated software,im running internet sercurity and to my absolute horror nortons is defragging my ssd everytime the pc is idle, are you crazy.

1 The first thing you do with a ssd is disable system defrag,it dosnt speed up ssds it damages them and wheres them out and if youre product is defragging everytime youre pc is idle you can kiss youre ssd goodbye in a very short time.

There was no information that youve added this to youre product and i cannot believe such a stupid decision was taken, you are potentially damaging ssds worldwide, you made no announcement about this feature and set it by default to on.

I would suggest you set this feature to disabled by default before people start asking for compensation for data loss.

In future it would be nice to be informed about such changes,i now have the unpleasent task in contacting friends and customers and talking them thru disabling this feature, thanks a bunch.

Norton does not defrag/optimize drives.
Norton calls up Windows built in defrag/optimize.
Norton has not defragged/optimized your SSD drive.
Please go through Settings to familiarize and set to your preference.
Under Help on main UI you'll find Product Tour n' Product Manual
Throughout Norton user interface pages you'll find question marks that link to Norton Support documents.

Re: Damaging ssd's worldwide??????

Well according to the report it defragged my ssd 1 hour ago? And really open programs without permission, which I would have denied, defragging damages ssd if it calls up windows defrag or uses its own,FACT defragging is bad for ssds,FACT you shouldn't be launching non Norton products without permission.

Im not  bothering posting again,im 100 percent certain that this feature will not go down well.

Re: Damaging ssd's worldwide??????

On my W8.1 systems I turn off Norton optimizer and set up Windows 8.1 to defragment my SSD Monthly. What it does on an a SSD is run the Trim command which marks cells that have been erased so the SSD can restore them to active. At some point when the Metadata file gets to a certain level (may take years) then it will actually defragment the files to make room in the Metadata file.

What version of Windows is on the machine? It it's 8 or later Microsoft changed the defrag element and it now runs Trim on SSDs instead.

I'm still looking for the official Microsoft statement I found on this and will continue but meantime here's a link to a third party SSD site that is especially interesting:
