Determine Device Name From A Device?

Is there a way to tell a device name from a device and rename it from the device? On line they are named sequentially so I cannot tell which one goes with which PC. I have had one crash and would like to deactivate

Re: Determine Device Name From A Device?

Hi Jeff,

Welcome to the Norton Community Forums!

Please follow these two posts' suggestions to rename your devices - but it has to be done from your Norton Account https://manage.norton.com/ :

I'm in Windows 7 right now, your mileage may vary.

Control Panel > System > Advanced System settings (on the left) > Computer Name (tab)

To find the name Norton sees from the main Norton Security screen click on Help - About. You will see device name at the top.

Re: Determine Device Name From A Device?

The Help-About does the trick. It says Jeffrey Windows -Windows 10.
Thanks.

Interestingly, now when I go to my account to Services, it now shows my installs and the Device Names are now the Windows Computer Names. Somehow, earlier, I would get something like Jeffrey -Windows 7-1,  7-2, 7-3, etc. Not sure what page I was on then.

Thanks again,

Jeff

Re: Determine Device Name From A Device?

You can see those strange device names in the Devices tab of the Norton Management site. If you look at the Services tab, that is usually showing the correct names.

This disparity between the names on the two tabs have been reported many times in the past with no solution yet.

Re: Determine Device Name From A Device?

This sort of answers my confusion on the same issue but caused a different problem.

I am not sure how it happened but Norton Security just disappeared from my computer. I reinstalled using the Norton Downloader that was still  on my computer, and now it shows up with a different device name. I was Kimberly Windows 10 and it is now ShirleyF WIndows 10-2.  I renamed this new install and removed the old one in the devices tab and it seems to be working fine so I guess I won't worry about it.

Please check your Norton account.  Please confirm all okay.
Post back progress.

Re: Determine Device Name From A Device?

I did check my account and the only weird issue there was the "old" install said "upgrading" with a continually moving circle that never stopped.  After an hour or so I decided to just delete [trash can] that install. Under the new device name Norton was and still is working fine. All devices seem to working as expected and my account expiration dates are correct. Auto bill pay is on so there are no interruptions in service. I am still not sure how or why Norton disappeared in the first place, but as it's working fine I am not too worried about it.
