Device Security Scan Impacts Internet Connectivity

When I’m using my iPhone or iPad, several times a day I notice that my browser stops responding and it cannot load a web page. So then I open Norton 360 and it shows that it is scanning my device. The scan seems to take much too long, as presumably it only checks to make sure my passcode and OS are up to date. And while the scan occurs my Internet connection is very slow or unresponsive. I’ve uninstalled the app and reinstalled but the issue still occurs. Why does the scan take so long and why does it occur so often? Can’t it just scan during idle times (preferably in the middle of the night).

Re: Device Security Scan Impacts Internet Connectivity

When you see this Scanning in the Security section of 360, have you tried tapping on the Security box to see if you can see what is being scanned?

Is this happening on your home network or at a public Wifi connection?

Are you using the VPN function in the Privacy section when this happens?

  1. When I tap on the Security box, it shows that Device Security is being scanned.
  2. This is happening on home Wi-Fi. (I don’t use public Wi-Fi hotspots; only cellular data).
  3. I’m not using the VPN. (Norton detects that my home network “is secure, VPN not needed”)

Re: Device Security Scan Impacts Internet Connectivity

I am not seeing this on my iPhone SE 2022 with iOS 16.5 and the same 360 version you have. I would suggest that something might be amiss with your installation. If restarting the device does not resolve this, I would suggest uninstalling 360, restart the device, and then reinstall and test.

Re: Device Security Scan Impacts Internet Connectivity

I uninstalled 360, restarted my devices, and reinstalled… and the problem still was occurring. So then I tried disabling things like Private Wi-Fi Address and Private Relay to see if they were interfering. I also disabled 1Blocker (ad blocker). Still no difference? (I realize now I should have kept notes). So then I did the uninstall-restart-reinstall 360 cycle again. Connectivity problem seemed to be gone. Re-enabled all the other things I had disabled before (Private Wi-Fi Address, Private Relay, 1Blocker). Everything seems okay now.

So I think it is possible that 1Blocker was possibly somehow interfering with the scan and that’s why my web connectivity was severely impacted? (Even in apps such as Chrome which don’t even use Safari extensions such as ad blockers?) But fortunately removing 1B and reinstalling seems to have “cleaned things up” I guess. If this issue re-occurs I will have to go through all my previous steps again, this time keeping detailed notes to confirm what the exact problem was.

Thanks

Re: Device Security Scan Impacts Internet Connectivity

Thanks for posting back. It is possible that the 1Blocker could have been interfering. Keep an eye on things and post back if the issue comes back.
