Diagnostic Report reports Win10 is not up to date

This is a fresh installation of Win10 on a brand new SSD.

I installed NSwB 22.5.2.15 yesterday after installing and updating Windows.  NSwB Diagnostic Report reported that Windows may be missing security patches.  More Windows updates were installed today and Diagnostic Report is still reporting my OS may be missing security patches.

How do I either get Norton to report correctly or update Windows?

I do not have this issue on my other machine that upgraded from Win7, nor did I have this issue on this machine after upgrading from Win7.

NSwB 22.5.2.15

Win10 x64.

Thank you.

Re: Diagnostic Report reports Win10 is not up to date

I did a live update this morning, 11/18/15, that applied a patch from Norton. This patch has solved the inaccurate operating system flag for me. Thank You Norton for repairing this aggravating glitch! I hope this works for everyone using Windows 10.

Re: Diagnostic Report reports Win10 is not up to date

hi Krusty

Seeing your report I have just run mine and don't see the same problem as you.

There used to be a similar tool in previous versions of windows but I have not found it on my system yet, if it exists.

I did try running "Troubleshoot common computer problems" from the Control Panel System and Security. Strangely under Administrator mode it reported fixing an Update problem!

On the Norton Report I do have an extra line not showing in your screenshot which says Latest Windows Hotfix Date - 201500811.

I have had two major updates from Windows in the past week and another when I reinstalled Windows Office.

Re: Diagnostic Report reports Win10 is not up to date

I've just finished reinstalling Win10 all over again and Norton is still showing the same thing.  When I look in Windows Update History it shows a graphics driver failed.  The driver has installed successfully but it does not show up in Windows Update History.  I believe this is the cause of Norton reporting Windows is not up to date but there appears to be no way to convice Norton that it is.

I am not in the habit of ignoring a security program but it looks like I may have to in this case.

Re: Diagnostic Report reports Win10 is not up to date

hi Krusty

I was a little concerned about my graphics driver before installing Windows 10 as I have Nvidia installed. Up until the second stage of the installation the screen resolution was quite strange, the circle which appears during the installation was oval. Part way through this Windows restarted and the circle appeared as such. This must have been Windows installing the updated driver which completed with no problem.

Hi Michael,

Just curious - I have a NVidia GeForce 6150SE nForce430 on one of my systems that Win 10 lists as not display compatible issue when Win 10 does the preinstall check. What concerned you in regards to NVidia?

Krusty13 - sorry for the interruption.

I just ran the report and did not get any warning. I have the same information as you show in the details, except for the location info.

I too have received several updates over the last week. Anything is possible with MS, so could there be some localization issues with their updates?

Re: Diagnostic Report reports Win10 is not up to date

hi Yank

The concern was that Microsoft and Nvidia were working against each other before the release of Windows 10 and had not solved the problem upto about the time the downloads were to be released.

I believe the problem was that the then current Nvidia drivers were not compatible with Windows 10.

During the upgrade process Windows would try to update the driver to one that was supposedly compatible when that happened it would not install or the installation became corrupted and the Nvidia graphics would not work/was disabled. I understand it was quite a long running saga with the Insiders versions of Windows 10.

I think it was a couple of days after Microsoft started the download of Windows 10 that it was announced that the problem was solved.

As I said by the time I upgraded to Windows 10 everything went smoothly and the new driver installed part way through the process.

Re: Diagnostic Report reports Win10 is not up to date

I upgraded to Windows 10 x64 Home on 7/30 and then did a clean install a week ago. No problems what-so-ever with the clean install. Everything seems to be running fine and I have no messages or errors from Windows. All my Windows  Updates are installed successfully. NS is installed and it has turned off Defender etc. When I check Windows Security, everything is fine.

Yet, NS Diagnostics Report gives me the following error:

"Problem : Your operating system may be missing key or performance patches.

Solution: Run Windows Update to make sure your computer has the latest security and performance

patches."

Apparently, this is a bogus error message? How do I get rid of it other than just ignoring it?

Thanks

Hello

A new NVidia driver came out today. However, I thought I had read some where that Windows 10 had to install the drivers as part of Windows updates. I remember this because I never liked installing their drivers because they were always behind the times with their drivers.

I've just used the Reset feature that is built into Win10, updated Windows and reinstalled NSwB.  This time there were no failed updates showing when I ran Diagnostic Report yet Norton still claims my Operation System is not up to date.

Clearly this is an issue with Norton.

PS :  It would be nice if Symantec could acknowledge this issue even exists.

Re: Diagnostic Report reports Win10 is not up to date

I have had this same problem with my Windows 10 Pro edition for my desktop but not with any of my laptop Windows 10 Home editions. I have installed windows 10 pro at least 6 times all different ways such as from update, clean install and refresh/reset windows. No matter what I do Norton security still reports windows not up to.  I called both Microsoft and Norton and they both took remote control of my system and found no issues with their software. Both MS and Norton said it was the others program not working correctly. This is frustrating as it must be one or the others issue to fix. Please help if possible

Thank for the heads up.

While I was waiting I reinstalled win 10 and NS but used a ATI video card instead of my Nivida card. That made no difference.

I then tried fresh install with changes to motherboard bios such as disabled fast start and disabled onboard device. No change

Wonder what it could be

Re: Diagnostic Report reports Win10 is not up to date

Recently my Surface Pro 2 tablet had the same result with the Diagnostic Report advising that Windows Updates were missing as other users have noted.

Over the weekend I needed to do a complete install of the original Windows 8 set-up then upgraded to Windows 10 installed NSwB and ran a Diagnostic Report which did not report the same problem with Windows Update everything is green and ticked.

I mention this as I guess the problem could be the possbility of a corrupt Windows 8/8.1 installation a bad Windows 10 upgrade or something wrong with Norton.

Unfortunately from my situation it's not possible to say which is the cause as everything has been refreshed/reinstalled in the past few days.

Hi Dave,

I thought I'd seen this being talked about  somewhere (here) a while back, but danged if I could find it...until you kindly pointed it out to me.

FWIW, This is a new development for me (just found it out today on my main personal notebook while I was doing some biweekly maintenance).  I'll be curious to check my other two Win-10 systems tomorrow to see if they're also doing it (now)...

I wonder what brings it on?

I also notice that the redcoats aren't saying much about it (other than for a "Yup - It's busticated ..." )

Sorry about the new post - Maybe a friendly Mod will merge this one with your original...

Cheers!

Re: Diagnostic Report reports Win10 is not up to date

Glad to hear Norton is aware of the issue and it's being worked on; I wasn’t even aware of it until I saw this thread. It seems to be a benign problem from a performance standpoint, but when a product gives false results you begin to wonder about the product in general.

On mine and my wife’s computer it also shows we have a high number of Startup Programs, but that’s an accurate finding!

Re: Diagnostic Report reports Win10 is not up to date

I recently refreshed the Windows10 installation on the system which was showing this issue - I did the refresh because it came to my attention that there was problems with creating new Windows User accounts on the system (basically it would create the accounts, but not allow the users to log into them)

I found numerous postings about this problem on the web, but none of the suggested fixes seemed to correct the problem - until I came across a post on the Microsoft Community by someone else having this issue...

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-security/windows-10-cant-add-another-user/6cd430b1-4789-46c3-ac66-93c0b1797a17?page=3&auth=1

The suggestion (by a Microsoft Engineer) to use the Windows10 Media Creation Tool to fix the (now apparent) corruption not only "fixed" the User account creation issue (for me), but it also addressed and seemingly "fixed" the Norton Diagnostic report (for me) as well...

Just thought I'd share this bit of information...

Cheers!

Thx. I was wondering if "Norton" above would have any suggestion too.

I've done so many refreshes in the past, because of correcting other issues, I'm now a little tired, and hoped Norton may have a fix now. :-) often they are quite quick.

NIS says "Protected", so I should have no cause for concern; the systray icon has the "x" on it though - a bit distracting.

Perhaps I'll wait on...

Re: Diagnostic Report reports Win10 is not up to date

Mine was fixed on my Windows 10 x64 desktop installation but is still not working on my tablet (x86). I also noted on my desktop that it reports "semi-automatic" when I click the green check mark to view details. What does that mean? My settings are "automatic", not the other option that says "notify".
