Difference between netbook and normal NIS versions?

Hi All,

I'm curious to know what is the difference between the 'netbook' version of NIS 11 and the 'normal' NIS 11? The reason being I have a three license version of NIS two of which are used on our two home desktops and last week I installed the third licensed NIS on my other son's laptop (Netbook). As far as I can tell, it sits very nicely on there and everything appears to be running as it should be. I checked the 'tasks' window and everything seems to be working normally. I now see the odd thread on here referring to the 'netbook' version and wondered what is the difference!

Hi derbomber_redux,

I think you meant this link? :-)

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/NIS-for-netbook-question/td-p/263511

Your current link contains 208.74.204.196/ after the http, and when clicked on, calls up the box warning the user that they are going to access a link outside the Norton Community.

Basically, NIS 2011 Netbook Edition is optimised for netbooks in that it includes power management features and is scaled to fit netbook screens. Also, the boxed Netbook Edition does not come on a CD but on a USB drive for obvious reasons.

Finally, the regular NIS 2011 product key and the netbook product key cannot be interchanged, which is understandably regarded as a disadvantage by several people.

Re: Difference between netbook and normal NIS versions?

Thanks to you both for those helpful links, I think I have got the idea now. The laptop/netbook appears to be working fine with the normal NIS. Not sure though if the auto tasks kick in when on battery power or only when connected to the mains, will have to keep an eye out for that.

Like it was pointed out, it's a shame you can't use two keys on the desktops and the third one for the netbook version, but there you go. Will try and give a kudos to you both for the interesting links you provided.

Have a good one.

Sorry Yaso,

In the knack of answering questions, I completely forgot about that.

Thanks
