Disabling Smart Firewall doesn't work

I'm trying to connect my Windows 7 PC to my PS3.  It looks as though the firewall is getting in the way.  I've switched off the Smart Firewall in the Norton application.  However, when I go to Control Panel>System and Security>Windows Firewall I'm not able to change anything because it still says that "These settings are being managed by vendor application Norton Internet Security".  This means that I can't access certain advanced options that will allow me to connect my PS3.

Please help!

Hi carleast.

Welcome to the Community.

Can you tell us which Norton product you are using (e.g. Norton 360; Norton Internet Security) so that the mods can move your question to the correct forum.  As this should then get you a faster response.

Re: Disabling Smart Firewall doesn't work

Hi carleast,

In WIndows 7, when a third-party firewall (such as the Norton Smart Firewall) is installed, Windows disables the Windows Firewall and cedes all firewall management to the other program.  DIsabling the Norton Firewall means that you have no software firewall running on your PC.  If you are still having problems with the PS3 in this situation, the issue probably lies elsewhere.

Re: Disabling Smart Firewall doesn't work

Several times, I've had to go into Windows Media and re enable sharing, but other then that the NIS firewall has never caused an issue with my PC sharing and my PS3.

Good Luck!
