DNS Servers In Iran Being Used By Secure VPN

Hello. I noticed something when I checked my IP today while I was connected to a server in Switzerland by Norton Secure VPN.

I found out that Norton Secure VPN uses Iranian servers for DNS. I changed the country I was connected to, and I saw that almost all servers in Norton Secure VPN use Iranian servers as DNS. You can easily see the Iranian IPs used for DNS in the photo below!

Then I thought it might be accidental; so I connected to servers by another VPN service called Surfshark and checked my IP again. I saw nothing about Iran in the DNS section!!!

WHY should Norton use Iranian servers as DNS for its Secure VPN? Is it really safe to use Iranian servers for DNS (which is a vital part of any VPN service)?

I'll attach a screenshot of what I explained above. Please see the photo below!

I'll wait for a REASONABLE response here. Thanks.

Re: DNS Servers In Iran Being Used By Secure VPN

Hello Pitbull2020. Please go to this site and run a DNS leak test. The Norton VPN is leaking DNS info and has been reported for action. If you see anything alike the screenshot below your DNS info is leaking as well. My IP addresses are redacted for security reasons. FWIW!! I haven't seen the VPN connect to or use Iranian servers. You may want to check your modem / router for updated firmware. DNS poisoning is common for outdated firmware on routers these days.

Cheers

Re: DNS Servers In Iran Being Used By Secure VPN

Thank you for the reply. My modem's firmware is up-to-date. I'll attach 3 screenshots below.

The first one is the Extended Test by the site you gave me in your post, when I was connected to a server located in Switzerland by Norton Secure VPN. As you can see, there are two DNS servers located in Iran.

The second screenshot is the Extended Test by the same site when I was connected to a server located in Switzerland by Surfshark (It's a VPN application). As you can see, there's NO sign of Iranian IPs used for DNS.

The third screenshot is the info from the website I already took screenshot of, for my first post in this topic. In this screenshot I'm connected to a Swiss server by Surfshark and again, you can see there's NO sign of Iranian IPs used for DNS.

So, It is Norton's fault that uses Iranian IPs for DNS servers. I still want them to fix this critical issue. The VPN service is used for SECURITY. It should NOT leak DNS. I'll wait for a response here...

Re: DNS Servers In Iran Being Used By Secure VPN

DON'T run the tests with SurfShark. Clear your DNS cache, Change the region in the Norton VPN, then go to the dnstest site and run the test again. Change the region a second time in the Norton VPN and retest.

Re: DNS Servers In Iran Being Used By Secure VPN

Just did so. There was no difference until I changed the DNS settings in Windows to Google DNS servers manually.

Norton seems have DNS Leak problem. They must fix this!

Thank you for the report; but I don't think it would be related to DNS problem of Norton Secure VPN.
