Do I need Pc Cillin?

I have NIS 2011 installed and will be upgrading to 2012 when license expires. I just installed a brand new Gigabyte MB that came with various free SW. One was NIS trial which I already have full licenses copy, while the other was Trend PC Cillin. Is there any benefit in installing PC Cillin since I already have NIS running?

Thanks

Welcome,

From the top. You can upgrade to NIS2012 for free so long as your subscription is current. I'd recommend that you save your identity safe data and upgrade now.

You need only one copy of one security product active on your computer. Any more and there will be problems. To be effective security products need to be in specific places to do specific tasks. These places are the same for all products - now you see where the conflicts might happen. The other part of this equation is that the second product is likely to think the first product is a 'nasty' when it reacts to an attack. Now wee have three players in the game and room for only one. If the 'nasty' wins you are infected and both of your products have failed you.

There are free scanners that are available that are Norton compatible if you feel the need to have a second opinion scanner handy.

Re: Do I need Pc Cillin?

Answer it simply..........................NO.  PC Cillian is made by Trend Micro and is another anti virus. You CANNOT run two anti viruses in real time.

Hi,

Sorry if I got a little wordy. I felt that the question needed more than a simple 'no' - which is the correct answer. The 'why' is needed to help the user make informed decision about other offers of 'free' or 'improved' protection programs which in the end decrease or eliminate protection.

There are even a few reports of wolves in sheep's clothing that contain malware, trojans and/or viruses.

Re: Do I need Pc Cillin?

This is legit software which came with his new mobo. This isn't sum shady software he is questioning. The "Trend" should have given you a clue. He asked about Trend PC Cillian and no where did you say or mention that. So I took the liberaty or doing so. Thanks.  I might also add he said nothing about Indentity Safe but you added that in. I was trying to answer his question simply and easily.
