Do I need to re-start for Norton LiveUpdate?

I have used Norton products for several years. This is the first time that I got a message from Norton LiveUpdate that says: "To receive the most current updates, you must restart your system." Please confirm that this is now normal. If so, is there a way to make the updates automatic without the need for a manual restart?

Re: Do I need to re-start for Norton LiveUpdate?

Norton receives protection and product updates thru LiveUpdate.  On occasion, Norton may ask for re-start.  So, "normal" is "on occasion".  Yesterday, we received a "Product Update".  See > https://community.norton.com/en/comment/7097641#comment-7097641
Note: version number did not change for this Product Update.
Please see > https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/norton-security-with-backup/22.7.0.76/solutions/v15467109 and > go thru Settings > Antivirus > Updates and set to your Preference.
Default is Automatic LiveUpdates On and Apply updates on reboot only Off.  Apply.
Note: at Use Defaults > on occasion, Norton may still ask for re-start.

Re: Do I need to re-start for Norton LiveUpdate?

I'm experiencing the same thing.  A splash screen that says a restart is necessary for updates or something like that.  I've been a subscriber  for several years & never experienced something like this.  I was unable to capture the screen but it sounds like another user had the same thing happen.  I just X it out because I think it's a scam.  I always get a notice from Norton about updates & that's why I don't trust this splash screen.  Oh by the way, I've been getting this splash screen for several days now.  I shut down my PC whenever I'm not using it for several hours, especially overnight.  Wouldn't you think that would satisfy the need to restart?

Depends if you're on W8.1/10 and run default Windows Fast Startup On.
Restart is not under the influence of Fast Startup.
When Norton asks for Restart.  Restart when convenient.

Re: Do I need to re-start for Norton LiveUpdate?

A hotfix was released yesterday to fix some issues with version 22.7.  The patch requires a restart.  If your version of Windows has Fast Startup enabled, shutting down the machine will not satisfy the requirements of a restart.  You should select "restart," rather than "shutdown," in order to apply the patch.  If you do not use Fast Startup, turning off the machine will be the same as a restart.  If you are prompted to restart despite having shutdown the machine, you need to actually perform a restart.
