Do I need to turn off Windows Defender Firewall?
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'll do so anyway. Sorry to bother you guys so soon after my last post.
I was looking through my Windows Settings a few months ago (I don't remember when exactly) when I noticed something odd in the "Firewall & network protection" part of Windows Defender Security Centre. When I clicked on one of the network options it came up with this:
Norton Security is installed as a firewall provider.
(Green check mark) No actions needed.
Open Norton Security (Link that opens Norton Security)
Windows Defender Firewall
Helps protect your device while on a network.
(Blue slider) On"
I checked again recently and, even after several Norton patches, it's still the same. This seemed strange as I thought Norton was meant to turn off Windows Defender. I checked and Norton's Smart Firewall was still running. I'm not too worried as I've heard Windows Firewall is meant to partially stay on to help with updates and according to Microsoft the firewall is compatible with third party software.
"You should always run Windows Defender Firewall even if you have another firewall turned on. Turning off Windows Defender Firewall might make your device (and your network, if you have one) more vulnerable to unauthorized access. "
I don't feel particularly comfortable turning off either firewall, Norton or Windows Defender. What should I do? Am I at risk?
