Does Core ever detect Norton Security on attached device?

With android app 1.20.2 and firmware 193,  I still have have never seen the app being able to detect Norton Security on an attached device.  I've intentionally left an Apple iPhone, and android phone, and a windows pc without having manually pressed "I have Norton Security Installed" just to see if the app ever figures it out.

Should I give up expecting the app to figure it out and just use the button to say that yes it is installed?

If the app is unable to determine if Norton is installed,  it follows that it would be unable to detect if it had been installed and later removed from a device.  That seems like a security hole.  And also not worth including in the security score.

dgt01 I see the same thing as you. I just told the app that I have Norton installed on the appropriate devices in the app. Left the other ones as they are such as Camera and printers. I don't personally take this as a security hole but rather a user choice in that users may not be using a Norton product but rather some other third party vendor. And indeed is should not go against our security scores as such.

Re: Does Core ever detect Norton Security on attached device?

I suspect the "security hole" referenced by dgt01 is that if it takes the Norton Core router several days/weeks/months (yes, 2+ months in my case) to determine that a given device has Norton Security installed, how long will it take to determine that Norton Security was de-installed, not up to date, corrupted, or compromised? Two months is a long time to wait before notifying someone that a device on their "secure" network is no longer running the expected anti-virus/security software.

Thank you to anyone that can share some insight on this matter.

Exactly Mike M.  Norton Core should not even be trying to report (or include in the security score) if Norton Security is installed on attached devices if it is unable to determine that it has been installed or has been removed from those devices.

Re: Does Core ever detect Norton Security on attached device?

All: I agree 100%. We should also be able to manually check for updates on the Core just an all other Norton products are capable of, as well as being able to manually remove devices from having been on our networks. Vice having us wait 30 days for them to automatically drop off. That being said. The best way to get a feature added/removed is to post it in the Product Suggestions thread here: https://community.norton.com/en/forums/product-suggestions

Re: Does Core ever detect Norton Security on attached device?

All: Since Core is v 1.0 device just keep the suggestions posted here in the Core forums since Symantec browse this area quite often. I also made the suggestion to add a Core Product Suggestions thread in the Core area as well. We shall see if that happens. Maybe that can keep things in a tighter area for Symantec employees to gather information from.

Re: Does Core ever detect Norton Security on attached device?

Hello

I have my Core set up since Monday. I looked at it on Friday night and it was set as having Norton Security as installed. I'm not sure if my son did that on Monday or not.

Thanks.

Re: Does Core ever detect Norton Security on attached device?

All: The core firmware is now on version 202 and apps on version 1.24. There has been no change to the core app auto detecting Norton as being installed on connected devices. Only the option to install is present.

Re: Does Core ever detect Norton Security on attached device?

All: Core app is now ver 1.27 for iOS / 1.27.2 for Android. If you go under security you should see the sentence "Here are way to improve your scrore". Just below that and to the right is an icon named "Norton Security", tap and open it.  Now scroll through the listing of devices, you should see under each one a box labeled "I have Norton Security Installed". That should make the device appear in your devices list as having Norton installed. Its NOT a security hole just a matter of the app design.

Re: Does Core ever detect Norton Security on attached device?

I think this misses the point.  The Norton Core router and/or Norton Security ought to be figuring this out for us and not relying on us to tell it.  After all, isn't this the point of the security score?  What happens when Norton Security is removed, becomes out of date, or a device on the network becomes corrupted, or compromised?  At what point will the Norton Core notify me of a rogue device on my "secure" network?

On a side note, I really do appreciate all of your efforts in supporting this community.  But I remain very disappointed that Symantec and/or Norton are unwilling or unable to staff the support forums.

Re: Does Core ever detect Norton Security on attached device?

All: My hopes are that the next firmware build will add the feature we are looking for here as well as a few others which were brought to the teams attention months ago. Firmware ver 229 is very stable so hoping they will focus on features with the next release.
