Does a Norton scan scan the entire PC or just that User Account?

I've always been given to understand that if a scan is run in the Administrator User Profile (it can't be run "as Administrator" can it?), it scans the entire PC and I've seen evidence of that in the past.

Since the latest Win10 upgrade, it appears that the scan is only scanning the User Account from where it was started. That's definitely the case  with SUPERAntiSpyware - it's scanning at the moment so I can't check NIS.

I'll run it across a few users as soon as I can and will post back but if someone could comment in the meantime that would be very helpful.

Thanks

PS I remember when you could install a new program - I hare the word App - and you could choose whether to install it for all Users or select a User. I think that's gone now - it's along time since I installed anything that I didn't want for all users.

Re: Does a Norton scan scan the entire PC or just that User Account?

Hi Taffy_078

If you select Full System Scan Norton scans your entire computer including your drives and memory. That includes all user accounts.

Hope this helps,

Re: Does a Norton scan scan the entire PC or just that User Account?

Thanks, Ballistic. It looks like it's set to scan the whole PC  judging by the fact that it scanned 2.1m items just now. That's staggered me - I must have been confused by the SUPERAntiSpyware scan that scanned just that User Account. I'll have to check those settings.

Much appreciated.

Re: Does a Norton scan scan the entire PC or just that User Account?

I looked thru the settings on SuperAntispyware and couldn't find a way to convert User Account scanning to all that use this computer.

However in the setup files you have the choice to choose whether you want to use the scanner to scan only User Account or all users on this computer.

If you want to use SuperAntispyware as a second opinion scanner I would uninstall it thru the Control Panel, reboot, then run the installation files again, choosing all users on this computer.

I use Malwarebytes as a second opinion scanner.

Thanks Ballistic - I also have MBAM as my #2 scanner. I've just realised it's a victim of the Win10 Upgrade and isn't shown on that UA. Another job to do!
