Doesn't Anyone Here or at Norton/Symantec Realize How Outrageous The FF NS Problem Has Become???

Where's The Outrage?

This has become absurd.

FF users are getting Royally Screwed.

It's a disgrace for a major publicly trade corporation with billions in assets to apparently be so inept or uncaring about its customers and their money to not make a larger staff and greater resources available for Norton Tech to fix this any time soon.

NS is currently being sold under false pretenses and misleading labeling.

Doesn't anyone at Symantec get it?? This is borderline illegal behavior.

"I'm late, I'm late for
A very important date.
No time to say hello, good-bye,
I'm late, I'm late, I'm late
I'm late and when I wave,
I lose the time I save.
My fuzzy ears and whiskers
Took me too much time to shave.
I run and then I hop, hop, hop,
I wish that I could fly.
There's danger if I dare to
Stop and here's a reason why:
I'm over-due, I'm in a rabbit stew.
Can't even say good-bye,
Hello, I'm late, I'm late, I'm late."

Norton Has No Immunity Here:

Norton Can Not Make Itself Immune from an Action By The Federal Trade Commission for Misleading Advertising.

Picture this: You are the typical unacknowledged consumer who uses Firefox and has been doing so for 15 years. A friend tells you that NS offers excellent protection, so you buy it. You install it and discover for the first time that it is not fully compatible with Firefox. Yeah I know about refunds, but meanwhile this consumer is sitting with a defective product he/she can't use and has to go through the refund hassle, and gawd only knows when he will get a check from Norton. No big box store will refund an opened box of software. At best they will replace it. So this kid has to go out and shine another 50 pairs of shoes to buy another A/V product. IS THAT FAIR?

LIKE THE FDA OFTEN REQUIRES NORTON NEEDS TO PUT A "BLACK BOX WARNING" ON ITS PACKAGING AND ADVERTISING ABOUT ITS DEFICIENCIES WITH FIRE FOX. IT"S THE RIGHT THING TO DO.

And it may not be immune from a private class action (of course the only persons who benefit from a class action are the lawyers)

IMHO anyone who uses IE or Chrome is ignorant. Sorry to offend.

Delete this post, scrub portions of it/sanitize it/snip parts of it, perma-ban me from the Norton Forums. I have 600 days left on my NS that I can't use and I don't give a damn anymore.

Why is it not your friend's fault that you need to shine more shoes?

A few things to keep in mind:

  1. The product worked just fine with Firefox until Firefox changed.
  2. It is being upgraded to address the compatibility issues.

Does it suck that the toolbar doesn't work in Firefox? Sure does.

Should that be your main security focus? Not in the least.

As someone who uses both Firefox and Chrome for my work, I find that it's far less convenient to use Firefox for this reason; however, you can work around it. I do it every single day.

Those of us who use Firefox are eagerly awaiting an update that works, but this isn't a situation where the company just dropped support. It's just taking time to compensate for changes to the browser.

Not saying that your gripe isn't valid - it fully is. Just saying that some perspective is needed.

Compare Security Vulnerabilities:

Internet Explorer

FireFox

Go on. Keep using your stoopid Google Chrome and IE. And this says nothing about the additional privacy concerns respecting Chrome and IE. Google and Microsoft are not your friends. Mozilla is a non-profit organization dedicated to doing good things. Unlike the others Mozilla has no ad network and has no interest in tracking your browsing habits, among other things. Go ahead. Open your life to Google.

People seem to forget that the Toolbar for Firefox is just one of many features in Norton Security products. Personally, I too miss the full Firefox Toolbar functionality, but I realize that the rest of the security suite is keeping me safe. Which in my opinion is the main purpose of the security suite. I look on the Toolbar as an added convenience feature.

The only thing I want to add to this discussion is this: two large companies with both great expertise, why can they not work out this problem TOGETHER. Pointing a finger to eachother (as they are doing now) does not help anyone, not the resp. clients nor themselves. A simple phonecall from one CEO to the other CEO could work miracles. But who will take that first step, who is the bigger man?

Our two desktops are missing the Norton toolbar, but our laptop is just fine.  All are running the same version of Firefox (43.0.3) and the same version of Norton.

Re: Doesn't Anyone Here or at Norton/Symantec Realize How Outrageous The FF NS Problem Has Become???

Hello bwanatom

On the 2 desktops, please run Live Update a few times until a patch for Firefox comes thru. If it doesn't come thru, then please restart the desktops and run Live Update a few more times and restart again. If after a few rounds like this and if it doesn't come thru, then you can try doing a remove and reinstall of your product. Please back up your Identity Safe using one of the other browsers if you use Firefox and then use the Remove and Reinstall Tool. Please read the paragraph before you use the Tool.

Please run Live Update to bring your Norton program up to date and run it also to get all the patches. I think there are 2 patches to get after using that tool besides the other updates.

Yep, I am certainly over this.  Over both Symantec and Firefox.  Many excuses being made for Symantec and some of them are very valid.  I think however that we as customers are losing sight of the fact that they included the safe option in order to get our custom, have made us reliant on it and now come up with a ridiculous “cut and paste” or “use another browser” workaround.  This is getting as silly as the version 22 upgrade for existing NIS customers debacle and the “we can’t let you have a local vault” stupidity.

HOK makes some points we should all consider and remember that we are customers, not defenders of shareholders of Symantec.

Anyway, I just picked up a 2-year license for Kaspersky for $15.  Might comeback in a couple of years time and see what shenanigans Norton are up to.  I think their current management are preoccupied with creating a small company from what was once a large and successful one.

You have got to be joking, of course.  I guess I have difficulties understanding why it is necessary to run live update several times, restart the PC, then run live update several times again, until all patches are received.  Why would they not have been received when I run live update the first time>

bwanatom: Why would they not have been received when I run live update the first time

Um, maybe because the update/patch has two parts or update released in phased manner or update A may require restart/reboot for update B or simply just to confirm No more updates at that time.
Think of updates like malware.  Malware may hide behind other malware so, run scan again to confirm no more malware at that time.  YMMV

Rebooted and ran Live Update several times.  Still no toolbar.  Did everything but run the remove and reinstall.  That has never been very satisfactory in the past.

Hello

It's a new version of the Tool, so maybe it will work better for you. If you want, you can do the regular uninstall using the control panel uninstall and then the Norton Removal Tool and then go to your Norton Account and download your Norton product from there.

Thanks.

A  similar thing happened to me repeatedly and I followed all GURU suggestions. I tried several times - ran the removal tool>downloaded from My Account>re-installed - usually the updates would fail to complete with a big red banner showing. But even when the updates were installed I had no toolbar. Dunno why. Maybe I'm using some extension in FF that conflicts with the toolbar. I just gave up and installed a 6 month free license for Bitdefender Internet Security 2016 I had received. Too frustrating. So I actually have little sympathy for those complaining about no ID safe when I couldn't even get web protection.  I never used ID Safe.

Have you checked in Firefox Add Ons - Extensions? Make sure the Norton Identity Safe Toolbar (that is what the Norton Toolbar is called now) is enabled.

It is enabled.  Funny thing, this morning I noticed that the toolbar appears on some screens and not others.

Everything was fine in Firefox 43.0.1 and 43.0.2.  I know other people were indicating they did not have the toolbar.  Then Firefox came out with 43.0.3 about a day after version 43.0.2 and my toolbar disappeared on two desktops.  But, my laptop was fine and still is.
