Downloader.Upatre after iPad Backup

I plug in my iPad to my Windows 7 PC and iTunes starts a backup of the iPad. When backup is completed I receive a Norton Security alert that indicates a "Downloader.Upatre" infection and I need to reboot my computer to resolve the issue. This happens EVERY TIME I plug in my iPad. I never receive any other alerts similar to this one. Why is Norton Security seeing my iPad or iTunes software as a High Risk threat? Note if I start iTunes and don't plugin my iPad I have no alerts.

Re: Downloader.Upatre after iPad Backup

Seems like it is completely legit to me. Also you do not need to plug an iPad into a pc anymore to back it up. It's all done via iCloud. Unless you use both means to backup.

Re: Downloader.Upatre after iPad Backup

@Rwm:

1. I'm sorry, if I offended you: You MAY get malware on the iPad if it's been jailbrooken. Just to confirm: clean Safari's cache and/or other temporarily items on yr iPad > update your Norton Mobile Security and Norton Security(?) for Windows (Note that Downloader.Upatre is a Trojan horse for Windows only, according to this doc.) > scan your machineS, like say, downloaded email attachment, some file you synced.

If you still have a problem, back up or move all of your personal data like bookmarks, then restore your iPad to its factory settings:

2. Chances are that you got a false positive. In order to clear that, use this page.

For more help, try the below options:

Contact Norton Virus Protection Promise in no time, if you still can't fix it yourself.

Please post back in time this or any other comment solves your problem. Thank you.

Re: Downloader.Upatre after iPad Backup

FYI

The Norton Mobile Security on IOS only backs up Contacts, and assists in finding a lost device. There is no AV support for IOS. So updating in this case will not help with the user's issue.

And re the backups...iTunes backup backs up a lot more information and personal data, such as passwords, than an iCloud backup.  See    http://www.pcworld.com/article/2154792/backups-via-icloud-or-itunes-the-...

.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Downloader.Upatre after iPad Backup

Peterweb.................the article you posted was from 2 years ago. Many changes have been made in iOS since then. I have had an iPhone since the 3G. Now I have a 7. iCloud backs up EVERYTHING. iCloud keychain stores your passwords and your contacts are linked to your Apple ID. Contacts are also backed up through the email client. I have not needed to backup my iPhone through iTunes in over 5 years or so. I recently wiped my entire phone out due to iOS locking up. When I logged back into mu iCloud on my phone everything came down form the cloud to it. The problem is her iPad seems to have some sort of malware on it when she connects it to her pc. The backup creates a temp file. Downloader.Upatre is a malicious file. But he does not need to backup his iPad to her pc anymore. I suggest backup up the iPad via iCloud. Then going into settings/general/reset/erase all content and settings. This will wipe the iPad clean. When it restarts select "setup as new" and do not restore from iCloud.

The article refers to iOS 7.1. Apple is now iOS 10.1

Re: Downloader.Upatre after iPad Backup

Thanks for all the info. I did clean Safari cache/history. Couldn't update Norton Mobile then I found out that it is rather lame for ios as mentioned Backup to iCloud and find my device. That's it. Note 1 says "Most features available on Android systems only". I will try other items I missed and see how that does. I don't remember if this started before or after upgrade to ios 10. Thanks again.

Re: Downloader.Upatre after iPad Backup

No iOS device needs an antivirus nor is one made for iOS.
