When the download is done the file disappears. I have disabled the Firefox setting to scan, but would like to re-enable it if there is a Norton update to fix this problem. Is Norton going to fix this or is it a Firefox issue?

Which Norton product are you attempting to download? Do you currently have a Norton product installed and if so, which one? What OS and SP do you have and is it 32 or 64 bit?
Firefox's scanning leverages your AV software to do the scan so it is in essence redundant and can cause problems since your AV software will also be scanning during the download.

Hope this helps.
Do you have Microsoft Office Automatic Scan enabled in your Norton product? There is a known issue where having this feature turned on will cause Firefox downloads to hang and the downloaded files to vanish. Symantec was able to reproduce the issue. Until a fix is provided, the workaround is to turn off the Microsoft Office Automatic Scan, at least when you are downloading a file.
Thanks SendOfJive, I had forgotten about this recent report.
mike852, you can find the thread referencing this issue here.
Thanks for all the help. I hope there is a fix for this because it is odd that all of a sudden we have to disable something whether from Firefox or the Microsoft auto scan, just to download a file.
Can you confirm if disabling of the MS Office automatic scan resolves the issue or does it require the Firefox scan to be disabled?
Thanks very much
