I'm trying to send an email with photos attaced to a client and I get error 554 Message refused.
Turning off scanning for email solved the problem but that's a hassle I don't want.
Welcome to the Norton Users Discussion Forum
Have you scanned the photos that you want to send? Are they clean? The error you are getting may be coming from the ISP's email server. What email program are you using to send the emails? Can you send email without the photo's attached?
The pictures are of a job site uploaded directly from my camera. I like to use windows live when sending pictures or at least I did before installing Norton which is made available from my ISP. It has something to do with the photos, I can send email without photos.
It seems to be a Windows Live issue since I just sent the picture using outlook. It was interesting that sending the pics with live and disabling Norton email checker for 15 minutes it would appear that the email was sent but 15 minutes latter I'd get the same error and the email wasn't sent after all.
I would then try getting in touch with the help people from Windows Live if this problem continues to happen. I don't think it is a Norton related problem.
Thanks for the feedback.
Google has produced some interesting links including this one:
from which it would seem to be an error at the ISP server triggered by the way Windows Live Mail deals with images. There are suggestions that WLM adds some code to the image that triggers the server into thinking there is something malicious there and I also see it suggested that when you insert the image in a message the image is uploaded to a Microsoft server and a link to it put in your message which might be what upsets any security software the ISP uses.
Someone is saying to use Attachment rather than Insert ...
Here's a link to the search result on [ error 554 Message refused +"Live Mail" ]
if you want to look at some other threads.
Hope that helps.
